"I here that Gordon drives dirty and complains all of the time"

Whoever said that to you is just mad because he wins. Jeff gordon is a class act. I have never heard him whine or complain like people say he does. He takes everything in stride and stands up for what he thinks is right. People need to watch him more apparently and stop listening to what "gordon haters" say about him because they're just jealous. He doesn't drive dirty either. I mean sure occasionally he'll bump someone out of the way if they stay in his way too long but he doesn't wreck them. Just move em up the track some and go on his way. Who doesn't do that? Gordon is perfect example of what a true champion should be and he has four WC trophies to back it up. And again I say "soon to be 5 trophies with the 2003 cup" :)

As far as F1 goes. They are some bad a$$ machines and I thought it was awesome when Gordon did the car switch promo on speed channel. That was pretty darn cool.

How old is Jeff Gordon, I'd love to see him in F1, sure many Nascar fans wouldn't though! :D

I read about the car switch, Jeff was only a sec[?] behind the F1 drivers time which is impressive for a first run, no doubting that guy is one hell of a driver!

The F1 driver said he couldn't believe how soon he had to brake to slow the Nascar down, must feel like driving a truck after the go kart like F1 cars......

Hope u all dont mind but im gonna take the **** out of NASCAR for a while.

NASCAR is a typical American sport. You all seem to lack the abillity to do anything which tests boundaries so when it came to motor racing u decided to get a huge ass oval

"Whho ye this ovals Huuuge ass U S A !!! U S A !! huge ass oval !!! U S A !!!" riiight and the skill in driving on an oval comes in at which point ??? One of the bigest races of the NASCAR season is "Daytona Speedway" gees sounds cool should be goood

fl-daytona.gif

Ahh hang on no no its a completly crap circle again. Oh well U S A !!! wooo hoo !!! Peanuts & Exhaust fumes thats what its about !!! who cares if the drivers cant drive ?

Lets have a look at the NASCAR's well 1st upp there pretty much the same as the track im affraid FAST in a straigt line but wouldnt be able to take a corner if its life depended on it ..... U S A !!!

So we can depict from this that the U S A can go quick in a staight line but when i comes to complex matters like taking corners then they suck and fall off ... ahh much like todays world really

Now down to a better motor sport ... F1 lets have a look at an F1 circuit .... ill take monaco because it to is a pretty famous track.

Gees id like to see some NASCARS get around that ... cor ud have to actually think about what u were doing if u went around that, hmm no americans are gona have a go at that then

So there u have it, compared to other motor racing NASCAR sucks .... completly like nothings ever sucked before. WOW U S Eh ?

Don't come into a thread obviously NOT geared to flaming any sport, and flame the USA and Nascar.

You have OBVIOUSLY never seen an Infineon and/or Watkins Glen race.

lmao ive been around Watkins Glen ......... great circuit its got corners but 90% of nascar is ovals and boring :\

Frankly, I don't like the road races. Can't see 90% of the race when you are there. Speed. People want speed, not turns.

At any rate, Nascar buries F1 in popularity anyway, so it's a moot issue.

Nascar beats F1 in popularity??????????

In USA but not as a worldwide sport, nowhere close.

The money in F1 is riduculous.

But I'm a motor racing fan, I've been watchng the American races for years.

autoexec...welcome to the free world where one can have an opinion that differs from your own.

You are talking about two completely different forms of racing. Sure, NASCAR certainly does not challange the driver in the same respects that F1 does. I think that goes without saying and you will not get much of a debate. The fact is F1 is a sport that challanges the driver. Where as NASCAR challanges the endurance of the vehicle and the strategy of the team. Regardless of what you think of oval racing, I guarantee that an F1 driver would be challenged trying to run with the NASCAR boys at Daytona.

You are comparing two completely different sports in my eyes. F1 is somewhat akin to track and field or soccer, putting a large amount of pressure on a single individual to excel and take control of the situation. NASCAR on the other hand is like really fast chess. There is so much that goes into the setup of the car, pit strategy, fuel planning etc. It is not just the race, it is the entire package.

I think you'll find all those things in equal quantity in F1

Ignorance is bliss.... :)

For instance....

There were more passes for the lead at the 2000 fall Talladega race than in an entire F1 season.

400,000 people watched the Brickyard 400 live, fewer than 150,000 watched the US Grand Prix at the same track.

No F1 event in history has ever sold 400,000 tickets.

Picture yourself doing 120 in car entering a 180 degree turn over no more than 250 feet.

Would you prefer to be in a 3500lb car with steel brakes, a 6" spoiler and 9' wheels or a 1400 lb car with carbon fibre brakes, a front wing, a rear wing that measures around 18"x72" and tires over 12" in width?.

Now, throw in 42 of your best buddies and have them join you two and three rows wide.

You will not see that in F1.

Even more...............Lets talk about Pit stops....proving the 'Team' concept mentioned by cjbeckwith.

1 . Decision is made to pit

2. Thirteen (that's right 13) men go over the wall and take their position in the pit box (2 at each wheel, 1 in front with a "jack", 2 to handle the gas, 1 for the rear "jack") and one to hold the cute little STOP GO sign for the driver (colour coded in case of a language issue I suppose)

3. The driver enters the pit box and stops on his marks. Fuel fill hose is inserted.

4. Each of the FOUR men holding one of FOUR air guns removes THE nut securing the tire directly in front of them while the front and rear jackMEN slip their little dollies under the front and back of their LITTLE car and tip them back to lift it.

5. Each of the FOUR men standing beside the FOUR men holding one of FOUR air guns and ONE nut grabs the old tire off of it's SINGLE stud and replaces it with a new one and sets the old one down beside him to watch as his job is done now.

6. Each of the FOUR men holding one of FOUR air guns and ONE nut tightens THE nut.

7. By this time the PRESSURIZED fuel delivery system is done and the hose is removed.

8. The car is dropped, everyone steps back one pace and the sign is politely flipped from STOP to GO

F1......................Winston Cup

13 men..............7 men

4 nuts...............20 nuts

4 tires...............4 tires

4 guns..............2 guns

2 jacks..............1 jack

11 seconds.......12.8 seconds

STOP.................GO

Event................Race

Close finishes

The second 125 mile qualifier for the 2000 Daytona 500 had 4 photo finishes in the top 18 positions. The margin of victory was 4/1000'th's of a second or just under 4 inches and the 10'th place car was less than a second behind the leader.

In an F1 "event" if the lead cars are within sight of one another the announcers become painful to listen to.

Sorry. No contest in my book.

Good post!

I wasn't trying to knock Nascar, like I said I do like it! :)

Its good to be able to watch both, like you say in Nascar you get more action packed races. F1 can be dull, I agree, but also you get some great races! Like when M Schumacher started from the back of the grid in a wet race, battled through the grid and got close to the front in a couple of laps for example.

American audiences seem to go for different types of 'events' ;) Nascar is far more popular in America than F1, BUT worldwide TV figures are the other way round.
