Domain Help

Question

Hello Neowin!

Sorry for the following question, I'm not sure if it is possible or not.

I have a domain which is redirecting using 301 to a web host, samsungflash.com

However I also have a account with another web host with a free domain samsungflash.x10hosting.com

Is it possible to have the samsungflash.com in place of samsungflash.x10hosting.com yet keeping the redirect in place on samsungflash.com

samsungflash.com is a domain under the company uk-cheapest which are doing the redirection at the moment.

I'm sure it's something to do with A records in the DNS records but was just wondering what to do.

Thanks & sorry if the question is a bit of a pain

Jordan

The free hosting you did is a sub domain and the redirection is only possible if samsungflash.x10hosting.com gives you the static IP and port.

You can redirect your domain to free hosting though but will not remain in the samsungflash.com domain.

Instead you can try this free web hosting and they will provide you with the IP which you can provide in your domain DNS.

5 GB Traffic

2 Domains Hosting

5 Subdomains

PHP4/5 , Perl/CGI-BIN

1 MySQL(v.4) Databases

FREE Subdomains

FTP Access

5 Email Accounts

Webmail, POP3

I hope this answered your question.

Hi

Thanks for your suggestion.

I have access to DNS from the web host with full A, CNAME and TXT. also a feature called parked domains which says "Parked Domains (Domain pointers) allow you to "point" or "park" additional domain names to your existing hosting account. This will allow users to also reach your website when entering the "parked" or "pointed" domain into their browsers."

As for the CPanel for the free host, it says https://boru.x10hosting.com:20**/ (the last 2 numbers have been starred out)

Nice affiliate link there, still1. Rather than trying to profit from an affiliate link, next time just try to actually help the OP out instead of giving him the wrong suggestion.

With x10hosting.com, you have access to cPanel. I signed up with a test account to look around and you have access to Add-on Domains and Parked Domains. OR you can use a main domain instead of a subdomain from x10.

You will need to go to Hosting > Modify Domain. Once you do that just enter in your domain and submit it.

Go to your domain registrar and add the following nameservers:

  • ns1.x10hosting.com
  • ns2.x10hosting.com

That was found by going to their knowledgebase and looking at their How do I have my domain name point to my website? article. How you can change your URL is also another article available.

Might help to bookmark the KB, forums and support desk next time you have a specific issue with your hosting.

Thank you very much :)

Have just added the nameservers. I've kept ns1.microlite.com (and the 2nd one) and then added the x10hosting name servers in the 3rd and 4th box as I use email forwarding on UK-cheapest.

I will let you know if it runs smoothly! :)

Won't be able to do that. You should only be using one pair of nameservers when with your domain. If you keep up the email forwarding nameservers, there are chances that you will have issues trying to resolve your domain and/or increase load/hops, etc.

You are better off just setting up Google Apps for that domain name and changing the MX entries in cPanel.

Good idea, I actually used Google Apps with another domain and found the service very useful!

I've actually just seen that in CPanel, it beats what my domain host has to offer so I will use them (has email, auto responders etc.) but I may just add Google for the email as it's convenient.

Thanks for all your help and take care!

:)
