rajputwarrior
i just picked up killzone 2, really really really really like it. Controls are a bit off (i'm a former halo 2 xbox player, im used to those controls for FPS on consoles...) but i got used to them pretty quick (so i still sometimes get the buttons mixed up, shouldn't r1 be zoom so you can hold r1 then shoot with r2?) graphics are amazing, one of the best so far for an FPS i've seen. haven't had any framerate issues. gamplay is fun too, playing it on elite and it's a pretty good challenge. trading in ff13 was worth it for this game, haven't finished yet but i'm looking forward to killzone 3 now. This is exactly what I was saying in Feb 2009 :p Either that or you zoom with left trigger and fire with right trigger, which really what any FPS should be. But even still, the least they could have done was let us edit the controls then everyone is happy. I don't understand why developers have to map them & lock them into what they think is best. That goes for any game..
KoL Veteran Posted May 29, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 29, 2010 R1 zoom and R2 shoot? That is weird. L1 zoom and R1 shoot is more comfortable. That is pretty much how all other shooter games are.
SimplySchizo
R1 zoom and R2 shoot? That is weird. Hehe yea. I was just thinking how awkward and uncomfortable that would be too.

No... probably not. R1 is essentially the standard fire button on Playstation shooters. R3 or L1 work great for zoom.

I think shoot/zoom works perfectly on L1,R1. L2,R2 are best for things like tossing grenades, anything requiring sensitivity functions. (UC2 comes to mind) I don't think the fire button needs to feel like an actual gun trigger. It's just not an efficient control scheme. I'm pretty sure devs are aware of this. But you use the middle finger to shoot? I don't know maybe it's me but feels more natural to use the index finger to pull the trigger. I'm with you 100%. What's the use of the firing button feeling like a trigger when its not even used with trigger finger?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 29, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 29, 2010 I've been over this topic way too many times to even bother going over it one more time. But no KoL I use the index finger to use the trigger and quick taps are all that is needed for a grenade throw on L1 or R1, whichever it is. You have your finger over the trigger far more than you do on a grenade button. Especially when games only give you 2 usually or something low like that and you never do both at the same time anyway. My preference in FPS is to use L2/R2. That's it. You guys like L1/R1, awesome. I think devs should free the mapping up to the player to decide. Then everyone is happy
SimplySchizo
You use your index on triggers? Wow, hats off to you. That would be highly unnatural and super uncomfortable for me to do, especially cause of the concave design of the triggers on the 360 controller. But I agree. Free up the controls. I've said it all along. Why keep their schemes locked down makes no sense to me.

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted May 31, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2010 I also prefer L2 (zoom) and R2 (shoot), so I will share these little gems one more time on here, as they truly are the best $5 I have ever spent on any console peripheral... Real Triggers For The PS3 Controller While they still do not turn them into triggers as good as the 360 controllers, it is a huge improvement on the default PS3 controller and the addition of the slight curve actually makes a big difference. I actually purchased 2 sets, for both of my PS3 controllers, and it literally has been the best money I ever spent on something that could be considered so damn silly. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 31, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2010 Yeah but Real Triggers only help if a game allows you to change the button mapping.
Jimmy0
I don't see why games can't just let the user fully customise the buttons to whatever layout they so wish, that way any complaining about the layout would be completely dissolved.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted June 1, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 1, 2010 Yeah but Real Triggers only help if a game allows you to change the button mapping. Killzone aside, almost every other game I've played on the PS3, the real triggers get plenty of use.

Massiveterra
I will enjoy this 3rd installment if 1. The FOV doesn't feel so narrow 2. They get rid of or improve the cover mechanics 3. L1 is used to aim 3. They make it easier to play with friends online To be honest I have no clue why they're already making a 3rd Killzone. KZ2 was one of my biggest disappointments of 2008
