yanike
Is SEGA making a return ;) What are your thoughts of SEGA returning to the console world? I'm hoping to see SEGA make a comeback and replace the XBox 360 (Three Rings of Bull****) and the Playstation 3. I loved SEGA Genesis, SEGA CD and even the DREAMCAST! Seeing something new from SEGA will be awesome. Edited May 24, 2010 by Colin-uk please dont bypass the swear filter - thanks.

Berserk87
last time I heard anything from sega about coming back (which was years ago) they said they had no intension of doing so and were going to continue focusing on game creation.
Chicane-UK Veteran Posted May 24, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 24, 2010 I'm hoping to see SEGA make a comeback and replace the XBox 360 (Three Rings of Bull****) Sigh. SEGA deserved to die - they made some appalling products. The 32X was a complete pile of garbage and the handful of people I knew who bought them all experienced reliability issues with them. A friend of mine hated his so much he took it out of his Megadrive and literally crapped on it in his garden. Hopefully they've learned, having had a few years out of the market for making hardware to see the successes & mistakes being made by other vendors and can eventually come back with a winning product. I think many of us will remember how you were either a Nintendo fan or a Sega fan back in the days of the NES / Master System, SNES / Genesis. It'd be fun to have that dynamic back again and you can't beat a bit of competition to keep the market interesting. GreatStalin 1 Share
Mr_Edwardo
No, they are not making a return - they have categorically stated that they are now a software company, focusing on game creation. Secondly there is not space in the market for 4 home consoles.
Panacik
that video is a trailer for the new Sonic game. The end logos show xbox and wii. New game for the xbox and wii. thats it. no new console. The "secret" consol has long been discovered as being a version of Sonic 4 for the iPhone.

TCA
I have to agree with the others... Sega is not coming into the console game again...it all started because of the Dream Cast which caused they're demise! so they chose to only create games. Chasethebase Reporter Posted May 24, 2010 Reporter Share Posted May 24, 2010 It's just the return of the legendary chant before the start of their games, I want to see this in more Sega games personally, because it's full of win. Dapen
It's just the return of the classic style sonic games. They're making a new sonic game like the old ones. That's what this trailer is for. Go to http://www.sonicthehedgehog4.co.uk/en/
George P Global Moderator Posted May 25, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted May 25, 2010 Sega won't be doing a home console ever again. As far as hardware goes they still, afaik, do arcade hardware for cabinets, but that's it. And that's a small market that's only relativlly big in Japan. Arcades are pretty much dead in the US. SEGAnomadfan
I think right now or some time 2011 would be a good time to release a console, they are restructuring to save money and also, Playstation is not planning on releasing anything untill 2015 or so, Microsoft is overly optimistic that natal will breath a few more years of life into the 360 and Nintendo is not planning on anything and also with the 360 just think, most of its big game franchises are coming to a end. Gears of war 3 will be coming out early next year which is supposedly the end of the series, Halo will be done when Reach releases and bungie quits making Halo games, they just joined a 10 year contract with Activision, Fable 3 will be coming out this winter which will also be the end of the series, I am pretty sure it is only supposed to be a trilogy, plus Mass effect 3 will be coming out in early 2011, which the creators said will only be a trilogy. SO 2 of there big RPG's will be ending by next year plus there only FPS and Third person shooter. The only big series they will have left with be Forza. They will not really have any exclusives left and those were the main reasons I got a 360, Plus I think if Sega released a system that combined the good points of the Wii library with the good aspects of the 360 library, and also had games that were download and hard-copy, because, I hope onlive well but there are some people that do not have high-speed or just prefer hard copy, so Sega could get those people and the people that would rather do download. There are some games I want on hard-copy and some games I did not like as much but would not mind buying download if I could get it at a cheaper price. I think if they did that and also had a good launch line up,good price, good online that is free maybe not as good as xbox live but better than Playstation home. And had good exclusive IP which they do, like nights, Virtua fighter, Sonic, Sega Rally, Panzer Dragoon, Nights, Sonic and Sega all stars racing,Plus they own the rights to MSR so they could also have a racing series like Forza and there other good games, plus some shooters maybe from Bungie or a spin off of Vanquish which looks awesome, and a RPG or MMO like Phantasy star online, it would do well. Plus there reputation has been getting better lately, they released AVP, Bayonetta, Alpha protocal, After burner climax, Infinite space, Sonic and sega All-Star racing, will be releasing Vanquish, Alien colonel marines, plus Virtua fighter 5 and Virtua tennis did well and Napoleon total war.So why not. After the Video game crash people thought games were finished and gust a fad and look how that turned out, nothing is impossible. Inklin
it will never be the same however way they do come back, I like playing the old ROMs within Gens sometimes, Proper classics... sonic just isn't the same in 3D.
Massiveterra
Sega has no money to do another console. Sammy would rather do pachinko machines than home game consoles.

mattmatik
The SegaCD, which I had and fondly remember, was crap. Yes, it was cool putting in "Ground Zero, Texas" and watching FMV at the time, but after 15-20 minutes you realized there was no longer a fun factor with the games. "NBA Jam" on SegaCD only consisted of updated rosters and "CD-quality sound", not to mention loading times of insane amount of time. Never had a 32x, I gave up on my Sega stuff after the SegaCD. I did buy a Dreamcast in 2000 when I was away for college and I enjoyed it, but lets be honest, it was because I could download and burn the games. I don't think I ever bought 1 legit game for the DC. I'll always remember the Genesis as part of my childhood, and along with the NES/SNES I was successfully able to barely get by in school. There are so many memories of riding our bikes down to the local video store and renting Genesis games, playing Mortal Kombat trying to figure out the fatalities...RIP

Take a minute to read up on why Sega lost the console wars. why would i read something I know? I've read about it years ago. They lost a lot of money because of it.Hence WHY after that they chose to only make games...they also had lack of funds as well.
Kreuger
better than Playstation home Um PS Home is not their online gaming service. It's a product available online. You mean the PS Network. Anyways, I doubt Sega is coming with a console either.
c3ntury
Sega wouldn't release a console I don't think.. unless it provided some uber-amazing feature like a mix of touch screen and controller gaming on a tablet (but could be plugged into a TV) with 1080p but with 3D graphics with no need and graphics and a price tag lower then the Wii. Never going to happen.
M_Lyons10
I have to agree with the consensus (As much as I loved Sega), I don't think another console is on the horizon (Or likely in the future). In all reality though, Sega's strength was always their software, and so this *should* be a viable business for them to focus on. I say should, because thus far they have not released anything revolutionary, or close to living up to their history in that market. I was always a Sega fan, and still look fondly on many of their past titles, but am saddened by their transition to almost completely licensed products and rehashes / sequels... What happened to all of the great IP's that they had? Panzer Dragoon (I know there was an XBox game - which was pretty good, but then what?), Panzer Dragoon Saga (Incredible game deserving of a sequel), Skies of Arcadia, and a host of others that are slipping my mind... I'll be checking out Sonic 4, but Sega has definitely lost something here post Sammy... Not to mention all the other cool IP's they could have created had they kept going... lol

Never going to happen. Yeah, which they don't even have the resources to develop. I honestly would be shocked if Sega had ANY hardware R&D department at this point (Aside from possible bare bones for their cabinet business, which I think they still are in.). Restructuring and refocusing resources to even develop a new console would probably at this point be an unbelievably time consuming task, not to mention a financial hardship that I don't think they would make... The Teej
Plus, what would really be the point of a new SEGA console? What would it really do that the other consoles don't? We've already got 3 console manufacturers battling it out - with Apple being a potential 4th player in a future generation of consoles. Having another player again would possibly saturate the market and that's the last thing we need.
soniqstylz
How did this slip past you people? http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/06/dreamcast-xbox-live/ Looks like Sega is hoping to make some ca-razy money off its old games. The publisher said today that it would bring hit games from its Dreamcast console to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as downloadable titles. Sega will release the first game, Sonic Adventure, this fall. Crazy Taxi (pictured) will follow it. Dreamcast was Segas final game console, which it released in the U.S. on September 9, 1999. Although it had several high-quality games, it was faced with unbeatable competition in the form of the PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox. Sega stopped producing Dreamcast hardware in March 2001. Segas plan to bring Dreamcast games to download services was tipped in a leaked document detailing the notes of a meeting between Sony and Sega last year. Its tough to think of Dreamcast games that need to be revived. Many of them already have been. Theres already a downloadable version of Rez, for example. I think the only one that Id actually buy would be Jet Grind Radio. Which of Segas Dreamcast games do you want it to bring back? Trophies / achievements will be included.
