George P Global Moderator Posted May 27, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted May 27, 2010 It's pretty clear that going forward what console people decide to buy will depend more on price and the services they offer compared to just video game library. The vast majority of games will be multiplatform from now on and there's only so much first party exclusives that can be made. Of course there will still be some cases where a 3rd party dev signs a deal making their game exclusive or at least timed. But that depends on if they already have a deal with a publisher like EA or someone who's willing to pay some of the costs or not. I don't really mind, saves money in the end because I don't have to buy 2 or 3 consoles each gen.
soniqstylz
and one of the things that always gets lost in this message is that those PlayStation 3 fans, those hardcore fans, have a new franchise to look forward to from Insomniac Best part of that whole interview. Hedon
Ooooh Juicy! Although wouldn't it still play better on PS3? I don't see why. This is great news. More games for more games is what this means.
Bhav
They're amazing developers...hopefully they do something great with their first attempt at multiplatform. Besides, when Bungie releases their first PS3 game, it'll be pretty "lol" too
Ayepecks
Sony wouldn't let that happen, since ND runs the ICE Team. btw: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/883228-rumor-insomniac-going-multiplatform/page__hl__insomniac ;) What do you mean "Sony wouldn't let that happen"? You probably said the same thing about Insomniac, and Microsoft fans probably said the same thing about Bungie (although, granted, these are different situations). They could leave if they wanted, as long as they didn't sign a no-compete contract. But I don't know why they'd want to... Sony doesn't have the negative history Activision does. Xtreme2damax
Wow, this is surprising, isn't Insomniac games a first party exclusive Sony development studio? Isn't Insomniac games also responsible for the Twisted Metal franchise, or at least Twisted Metal: Black? Multi-Platform is great, but a console does need exclusive to help push units, sane people usually buy certain consoles for the games they have so losing exclusives can also be a bad thing despite it also being a good thing. No, they have always been independent, just always been making Playstation Exclusive games, so "Second Party" is the preferred term. And they have never developed a Twisted Metal game either. Tech Star
Check it out.. Who said that? Well this sucks for the Sony camp, but I can't wait to see the new things that they are working on.

If you read the link I posted that you quoted, I posted this rumor during GDC, never said Sony wouldn't let it happen with Insomniac. I don't know what MS's deal with Bungie entailed, but I believe they were "let out" of MGS, partially to retain creative control. As much as invested in the ICE Team with that being central to PS3 development (and future consoles), I don't think the studio itself would be "let out". Members may leave, that's typical (Ready At Dawn was started by former ND and Blizzard devs), but ND will most likely remain SCEA for a while, having earned quite a bit of creative control with three successful series for PS systems.
