[UK] Game have a rental service.

Don't know if this is a very new thing or old and I just never knew about it but, Game have set up a video games rental service similar to gamefly in the US.

It's also cheaper gamefly works out at £11 per month for 1 game at a time and it's only £9.99 from Game, not often you see something cheaper in the UK than its US equivalent, even if it is only a quid.

That's cool, as many games per month but 1 at a time for ?10 isn't bad at all.

I was considering starting to do a sort of subscription rental on-line, GAMEs looks a little more "official" than a lot of these other no name sites that you can do it from.

They started this service last year with a partnership with SwapGame.

Not many people like SwapGame though so I suppose they decided to go solo.

Edit: actually looks like they are still using SwapGame for it.

This isn't new at all then, just new advertising.

yeah and you can do 2 games at a time for £14.99.

It's not bad. but as ever companies have to make money, and if you think about it even a new expensive game at say £40, if you rent it for more than 4 months you might as well have just bought it...and if you wanna get rid of it after 4 months you could probably still sell it for £28 upwards or trade it in at game or gamestation, so good idea in principle, but I dono if its worth it....if they fully copied gamefly and let you buy the game if you like it at a discounted price then yeah it'd be better...but just a rental service I don't think is good enough.

The problem is they price it in-line with movie subscription services like netflix and I love film....but you can watch a film in 2:30h and send it back the next day, games even if you blitz them are gonna take a good 7 hours, and thats if you do nothing else, price needs to be like £5 and then I'd consider it.

I use http://www.boomerangrentals.co.uk/

I pay £3.49 per month, I can only have 1 game per month but suits me as I don't have alot of free time. But essentially I can have 12 game rentals for £41.88 a year. Service has been good, I had to call customer service when I first signed up as I go no rental dispatch in the first week, the customer service person sorted it all out and a game was dispatch the next day, he also reset my trial period.

I use the service for PS3 and xbox360 disc's are in good condition.

See now that's the sort of thing I want! fairly cheap and I can play a game for a decent amount of time before sending it back without feeling like I'm wasting my money.. cheers Pabs.

I like the sound of the 'Priority Service' packages they offer, that's the only thing I wish Love Film did!

LoveFilm would be a better choice as you get to rent movies as well. You can mix and match.

except that the cheapest one with games is ?9.99 a month and only lets you have 4 rentals per month (source)

that heavily limits how many dvd's you can get if your watching those 1 per night

be better off with a 1 disc unlimited from love film and bomerangs ?3.49 for games, then you can keep games for longer but still watch loads of movies...ok so 2 subs but it's the best way to go

would work out at ?14.99 from love film and ?13.48 if you have the 2 seperate.

ok ?14.99 gets you 2 at a time unlimited games and dvd's but as I said earlier most people wanna keep games for a bit longer.

I think only a small portion of people will want to keep their games for longer than a week or two.

I've been using LoveFilm for about 2 months and I tend to give games back after about 5 days. I mean, any game I rent wouldn't be something I'd ever consider buying anyway, so I already know I'm not going to adore the title. :shifty:

I agree with there, since most gamers who play lots of games are students or have plenty of free time, then LoveFilm maybe the better option, more games for the price.

There are also people like me, limit free time, so tend to take a longer time to complete games. Boomerang suites my needs keep games for as long as you want and cheap. I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes this ;)
