What should the next Valve hit be about ?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, this thread is to just brainstorm some ideas. What do you think should Valve do for their next big hit series game. Meaning, Half-Life series was about nukes and portals opening into outer space, Left 4 Dead was about flu and people becoming zombies. What do you think Valve should make their next BIG HIT about ??? biggrin.gif

I know this will never happen, but If they did make some sort of MMO, I wonder what it would be like.

Engineers, and giving them new weapons. :shiftyninja:

In all seriousness, I don't know where they'll go next. It'll probably be Ep3 or L4D3 at some point in the future though.

How about finishing HL2? or Portal 2?

Or even ending the storyline of Opposing Force (yes, I know it was 3rd party)

Yea but at some point they have to start a new series right

I was thinking maybe something along the lines of AI and robotics, that would be pretty awesome w00t.gif

I know they are, thats why I said it would probably never happen, but it is still fun to ponder.

- A Left 4 Dead game with an actual story would be awesome.

- Half Life: The Seven Hour War could make a fricken awesome game.

- Half Life: Blue Shift 2. Barney has done so much more than Gordon, it would be great to have a Blue Shift for HL2 so we can follow Barney instead of Gordon.

Know what I really want?

A new Counter-Strike game, with an immersive plot and single player mode (Nothing like Condition Zero) with epic multiplayer to boot. Because we know Valve do good single player FPS games, so why not use the Counter-Strike license to do that?

Left 4 Dead does have a backstory tho its not clearly laid out to you, rather you have to find out thru the game itself i.e. the graffiti on the walls

Yes I kno abt Half-Life and Portal and everything else, But I was asking like for the next brand new series

I know L4D has a story, but what I mean is an L4D game where it goes into great depth about the origins of the infection and so on.

For their next franchise, they could probably do a good Mass Effect style Third-Person game, but darker. Think Half Life 2 Meets Mass Effect.

You mean Portal?

Probably some online squad-based military shooter.

That was what Team Fortress 2 could have been, years ago. (Fortunately it didn't turn out that way.)

Quite honestly ATM, I'd rather they didnt jump on any new IP. I think they have their hands full as it is, as is evident by the amount of time EP3 has taken. That and Counterstrike could do with some more work or a follow up and theres the inevitable L4D titles.

ATM I'm quite happy for them to work on these series...at least get EP3 out first.

Aside from Portal 2, Half-Life 2: Episode Three, and another Left 4 Dead-type game... I'd say Counter-Strike is next in line. I'm sure Valve are aware of the game's popularity. To this day, people still play Counter-Strike 1.6. I'm sure a game based on Counter-Strike but similar to Team Fortress 2 would do well. What I do know for sure is that Valve would never abandon Counter-Strike.

The original Counter-Strike was released in 1999 followed by Counter-Strike: Source five years later, in 2004. It's 2010 and CS:S is nearly six years old. To me, it's more likely than a new IP which may require more work. And with two new IPs (Portal and L4D), it's time for Valve to revisit the classics.

Honestly, I wish it would have. The "new" TF2 looks too cartoony and childish. Given Valve's talent

and resources, I think they could redefine the genre. I'm sick to death of all the stupid military games

out there, but if Valve does it, I'll definitely look into it. Best PC game developer ever.

This combo in an FPS

The unreal announcer.

stupidly overpowered vehicles of C&C

the weapon choice of the GmoD

stability and character classes of TF2

with the following game modes All Out WAR, CTF, Checkpoint taking/advancement, Death Race, all types of death match, and an Armageddon/save the world type.

all with the graphics of Crysis III
