poor treatmeant of uk gamers recently

Recommended Posts

something needs to be done about this imo, publishers think they can treat uk pc gamers like **** and get away with it, a couple of examples

Metro 2033 - could not be purchased directly through steam you had to purchase retail and register the key on steam WTF (unless you were lucky enough to pre-purchase when they allowed it by mistake) because of some bull**** exclusivity deal thq had with game, it was hardly exclusive though as places like shopto sold it cheaper just without the dlc

a number of ubisoft titles are not available on steam yet are on the us steam (silent hunter 5, assassins creed 2, total of 13 games) probably for the best though as ac2 and sh5 both have ubi's new drm

split/second only seems to be on metaboli, a service noone uses, again it looks like some deal with game as i cant find the retail version anywhere and the metaboli download is overpriced

also steam release dates in general are at best annoying at worst broken, they usually start by showing the us release then once that timer has expired change to friday, i dont see the point tbh just release the damn games at the same time worldwide, if i order retail i would save money and get them sooner anyway with places like shopto, the only reason i keep using steam with its annoyances is it keeps things tidy and i dont end up with a collection of useless disc.

the solution seems to be a vpn and us paypal account though as i cant see valve or the publishers doing anything as long as they are making money why should they give a ****

Even though I am in the US, I support this. Valve should make it a rule that if Steam is available in a country, then your title needs to be released for that country also.

It seems as though Steam isn't "good" outside of North America. And it's a shame too.

i see your from australia so apart from the R18+ issues i imagine you have a lot of the same problems

someone should make a site for where you can select a steam game and region to purchase from and have it sent as a gift shouldnt cost much to run (the website and a few vpn's) and if they add a reasonable surcharge they should cover the cost and make a profit, that would get around any pricing, release date, cut content issues i believe.

here is another interest one i just noticed, us store games under $10 (?6.8) 587 uk store games under ?7 474 so out of that small sample over 100 games are more expensive or not on the uk store, i cant work out how to see the total number of available games in the client to compare the games available in each region.

unfortunately i dont have the ability to make it happen or i might have (suppose i could have paid for a webdesigner but that would probably be costly)
