PS3 on a HDTV that doesn't have HDMI

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in buying a PS3 Slim, but my HDTV was purchased before HDMI became a standard I believe, so it has a DVI port and a 3.5mm audio jack instead.

I have a HDMI to DVI cable sorted: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PS3-HDMI-DVI-cable/dp/B000NWQULS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275071872&sr=8-1

But the question is, how do I get the audio part working? It was recommended I get a 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Female Phono Audio Cable but from the photos I could find of the PS3, I can't find anywhere on it that the 2 RCA jacks would plug into. Can someone give me some insight into this?

Thanks :)

Is using component cable an option?

With your PS3, you receive the SD cable. That cable as Stereo audio on it. (3 RCA output (Yellow video and red/white for audio))

*Edit*

That DVI/HDMI cable will work. Component will also work but it is analog and it will not output at 1080p. (HDCP limited)

So if I understand that correctly, I attach the 2 female RCA to the end of that included SD cable, and the 3.5mm jack goes into the TV?

No, you can output at 1080p through component. It's only Blu-Ray movies that are limited to 1080i, due to HDCP, like you mentioned, but everything else will output to 1080p, games included.
