rlculver
I am in the process of adding new machines to an exisiting network. The only problem I am having is that a room needs to be cabled all the way back to the main patch / switch. Their are currently two network sockets in the room. Would connecting 2 x 4 port 10/100 Ethernet Swtichs be fine to the two ports already installed, or should I really cable back to the main patch / switch? Thanks Robert
ModuleX
well i think the connecting the 2 x 4 port switches should be fine, although i recommend cableing back to the main. I should hold up ok anyway.
ModuleX
ok i cant edit my post so here it is. it wont be a problem to run a switch/hub off the existing ports, but obviously the speed will suffer a little as there are 4 pcs sharing a 100mbit port on the switch so as long as your not all accessing large files simultaneously it will be fine
fiBer
It depends what load the machines will be under. If they are to be under serious load at most times, run a cable back to the main. If not under so much strain, should work as is.
