Sony's Eye Toy

Recommended Posts

If this topic has been added elsewhere I apolgise in advance. Has anyone bought the Eyetoy for the PS2 yet. I'm thinking of getting one and I thought someone on Neowin would have bought one by now as it I think it was released in UK last week. Is it any good and what is quality of the games that have been bundled with it?

:woot:

I used something similar on the PC a few years back. Using webcam, was Intel software (supposed to ship with intel Create & Share cam).

It works by detecting movement, so even playing against a wall with posters was ok, as you are the only moving object.

It then uses this to create collision detection to your form.

Then you can play such amazing games as a bounging a ball, catching a ball or even (GASP) popping bubbles.

To be fair, it was only fun with a BIG screen in a room with lots of space. Or drunk.

At the time I was impressed with how it worked, and it did work well. But really, there are much cooler things to do on your PS2.

Yeah I saw that in action in EB last weekend. Actually it was pretty fun to play with and could be addictive too. EB only allows each tester 5 minutes of game although it worth a fun to try with.

EBs tester would have only allowed 5 mins of play, because after 5 mins you realise how tardy it really is. It's cool in 5 min bursts every month of so (IMO)

it would be cool if you could play fighting games with it

theres 2 fighting games built in but the novolty ran off quick

.. we got bored with it in the end ! Hopefully more games will take advantage with it, coz i know it could be alot more fun !

Thanks all for your comments regarding the Eyetoy, judging by comments so far I would not consider purchasing one as it seems to have only a short term appeal. However, does anyone know of any third party support for upcoming games using the Eyetoy. A game utilising the Eyetoy and a lightgun would be a cool idea.

By fighting game i meant tekken, like in the arcade when you can use the movement detection to fight in tekken, it seemed cool but i dont know.
