PS3 Games Go 3D On June 10

Good for the people that can play them.

Pain? People really play that game? They keep making updates and adding characters. I tried the game and didn't like it.

I'm not sure this is going to be as great as Sony make out. You have to have a TV capable of 3D, right? Not sure about anyone else, but my HDTV is still too new to justify paying more money to get the 3D effect (and lose the HD effect, if what I've heard is true).

meh !

+1

I've not even bought an LED tv or one with internet capabilities, never mind a 3D tv.

I'm all for advancing the market, but they need to play ball and reduce the prices when a new tech releases. Otherwise all their R&D costs won't be covered because people are too afraid to upgrade if something new is announced next year.

yeah i can't read the article either, im also at work (that's all that would show up on my google reader :p)

i read somewhere that the PS3 3D woudl work on non 3D tvs, as long as its 120hz. I would provide article links, but those are all blocked at work...

Having previously revealed a launch date of "June", Sony Japan got specific overnight and said that the PlayStation 3's 3D era will begin on June 10. That'll be the day a number of downloadable titles for the Japanese PlayStation Network are updated to support 3D technology. Those games are Super Stardust, WipeOut and Pain, and while the first two will update free of charge, in a disconcerting precedent people who already own Pain will still have to pay ?300 (USD$3.20) if they want to play in 3D.

A few things to note: you'll need a 3D TV to actually use this tech, so that'll instantly rule out over 99% of you. And June 10 won't necessarily bring about a new firmware update, as the groundwork for 3D games was laid last month.

While we'd imagine that the June 10 updates will be worldwide, we'll check with Sony to be sure.

UPDATE - Nope! Sony tells us the June 10 date is for Japan only, with North American & PAL details to come "shortly".

Damn why nobody was qouting this when so many can't see the article, anyway here it is.

I didn't see too much 3d yet just avatar in theater, But to tell you the truth when I saw the same movie in BR. I think I'll still with 2d right now, 3d sucked big time.

I am by no means a 3D fan but a TV does not need to be that high of a spec to utilize it. Basically you need HDMI 1.4 or better. A lot people think that there is some drastic technology difference in 3D branded TV's. The reality is that the 3D branding is a marketing gimmick for the misinformed consumer.

eff that, pannasonic plasma's FTW!

To me plasma looks more like those old tv's in 1990's. No matter what angle except right night the front of it, the only thing you see is black screen. I LCD or LED nothing less anymore.

you must have seen some crappy plasma's. the viewing angle on my viera is ridiculous and other then the newer sharp's i haven't seen any other LCD TV's where the colours look better then mine.

This!

Back in the day plasmas were pretty poor, now days the actual colour balance is often better than that of LCD panels. People just associate plasma tv's with the original ones that cost about ?10k on release.

When do us PC gamers get 3D games eh? We used to be the cutting-edge for hardcore gamers.. no longer :'(

nVidia has 3D tech out, doesn't even use glasses.

1. No 3DTV.

2. No good game support.

3. Do not want 3D glasses.

You're obviously misinformed. All current non-3D games spawn new discs on June 10 and are auto-perfected for 3D. Also, a 5$ charge transforms your current TV into a 3D-TV; with all the latest 'go-green' features. Glasses shmasses, you've got a "transforms your old TV right in front of you" 3D-TV.

/sarcasm

This won't be a big deal for the reasons 'Sundayx' listed. 'nuff said.

I'm a big WipEout HD fan, so that alone has me somewhat excited for the arrival of 3D. Still though, my current TV does not support 3D, and the next TV that I buy (which may be fairly soon...) won't support it either. I don't see the need to throw away money on something that I probably won't utilize very often.

The thing is, it's coming to all visual media. Blu-ray itself will support it. 3D TV stations are already coming soon -- the Masters was broadcast with 3D capability, and ESPN is setting up a 3D-only channel.

There's too many companies on all fronts for this to be a full-on failure or cheesy off-hand gimmick. Cost and economy may keep it niche until holidays 2011, tho. HDTV penetration is still only something like 46% in the US, so there's quite a few 3D-capable TV's that can move off shelves once prices come down very soon, along with OLED and similar techs.
