If you're asking about Ravensky's post then it's Net Speed Monitor. Quite a useful little app.

yes, that's it. i've been using dumeter for years, but having something that i dont have to hover over to see would be awesome, thanks!

I haven't played with Windows 7 themes that much.. but how in the world do I get the orb to change? I've looked high and low, but I'm clearly looking in the wrong places. TIA.

The Windows 7 start orb image resource is inside of the explorer application. If you want to change it, you're going to have to replace the explorer with the one in the theme folder (provided that there is one included). ;)
