App required to create and update website content

Question

Afternoon all,

I?ll be the first to admit that I?m no website designer, and my code knowledge is limited; I can pretty much place line breaks and format text, but that?s about it.

For the past two years I?ve been looking after a website for a friend who has less an idea as I do, fortunately my friend has only required several updates to be performed over the past couple of years, so taking his text documents and converting them to something the website likes hasn?t been too time consuming. Now however, he requires more regular updates, something I don?t really have time for, and I?m sure he?d like to update the site himself as and when required.

With the above in mind, is there an application out there that I can install on my webserver which will allow me to create a site and then update content easily?

As stated I?m no designer, but I can figure stuff out! I have an IP Board on a shared server which I installed and manage; I?ve also taken a standard template and customised it!

Any suggestions on such an ?app? would be much appreciated.

Craig

I think wordpress would work well here, if you know how to install IPB you can install wordpress (its actually much simpler :p )

plus there are lots of skins/themes/templates out there :)

and writing new content in wordpress is easy.

Wordpress is what you'll want to download and install so that he can maintain his own website be it for a blog and/or just adding new content pages.

You'll find a plethora of support on their own forums alone before you even get into the enormous 3rd party community for Wordpress themes and plugins.

I concur that WordPress would be ideal for standard content management or blog type application.

Another option might be Drupal as well, although it's not quite as easy to setup, it does offer a few other options for community type sites. Either would be a good choice in my opinion.
