Ayepecks
Wondering what big announcements Microsoft has up its sleeve for E3, aside from all the Project Natal stuff? Well, it looks like Hulu is gonna be their other surprise. While everyone was looking to the iPad as the device that would kick off the subscription-based paid model for Hulu, it instead looks like the Xbox 360 is going to get that honor. We’ve heard from a very reliable source (who has never been wrong before) that Microsoft is set to unveil Hulu as an Xbox Live service at E3 2010. Similar to how Netflix is integreated into the Xbox 360 dashboard, Hulu would be there as well, and would require a subscription fee. We have no idea how Microsoft will charge for it, but our assumption is that you’ll pay for a block of access time (a month? a quarter?) by using Microsoft Points—but again, that part is just a guess. We also have no idea as to whether you will get the entire Hulu catalog that’s available on the web, or if it will be pared down for TV consumption, despite paying the premium.E3 kicks off in two weeks, and we should know everything when Microsoft’s Media Briefing kicks off on June 14th at 10:00 AM PT. Source: http://www.gearlive.com/news/article/hulu-xbox-live-e3-q310/ Would be amazing if free... but if it costs for access time, count me out. sweetham
Would be amazing if free... but if it costs for access time, count me out. Agreed. If there is going to be a premium hulu model they better up their game. No commecial intteruptions and same day or next day release would be a good start (some tv shows have the next day release already, but alot of them are a week behind their originial air dates). I would also highly suggest they get a better and bigger library of movie titles to. Hopefully there will some good details at E3 if this pans out to be true. Neo003
I doubt it would be free, cause they charge like 400 point for same shows on Zune.
George P Global Moderator Posted June 2, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted June 2, 2010 I doubt it would be free, cause they charge like 400 point for same shows on Zune. But the Zune videos you actually download and then own on your 360 HDD. Hulu just streams content, it's really like netflix so a small fee makes sense. If the programing is there (i'm in the EU so I dunno if it'll even work, netflix doesn't work here iirc.) then I'll pay a small price to watch. Just need more details. metal_dragen Veteran Posted June 2, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2010 I would be very interested in this if true. I already have and use Netflix on my 360 at least 3-4 times a week. The thing about Hulu is they need more content. You still can't get full eps of CBS shows on Hulu, and I'd like to see stuff from the Discovery networks. coresx
Smart way and decent environment to test a subscription model for Hulu.

Ayepecks
I doubt it would be free, cause they charge like 400 point for same shows on Zune. This is just streaming, though, like Netflix (but the service on PC doesn't charge -- yet -- unlike Netflix).
Mathachew Veteran Posted June 2, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2010 I would be all over this, except I'm not paying to simply stream. No doubt this would be limited to only Live Gold, like virtually any other nicety on the 360, but no way I'm paying extra for it. I'll just go back to using PlayOn if that's the case. Sure the quality isn't as good, but the one time charge for that is a more viable option than a monthly subscription. Heck, I have a hard enough time justifying Live Gold as is. Neo003
The way I see it streaming and download for me is same, I would watch one time and that's it. Netflix service even though free for streaming online you is still paying 15 bucks a month. Hulu has been free for a while now but due to growing demand they either have to charge more to companies to advertise or charge us to consumer in order to keep the servers running. Not sure what you mean by streaming and downloading are the same when they're not. And Netflix streaming isn't free. You get 2 hours of use with their cheapest plan, and unlimited use with all of the other plans. The streaming is included as part of the service you get with them, regardless if you use it or not. I understand your point about growing demands, but I'd rather use PlayOn or run a DVI cable from my PC to my TV than to pay a monthly premium to watch something that may otherwise be free on their website. SMELTN
You know I was thinking this is going to be great. I am a longtime playOn user, but its not $39.99 for a subscription to it. Sure you get more than just Hulu, but still, most people only care about Hulu to watch those shows they missed. If this is a cheap "yearly" subscription model, I will bite for sure. Ayepecks
Pfffft :) I will still check it out to see what all the hype is. I hate to be left behind. Just go to Hulu.com and see if anything there interests you or isn't offered on your DVR. If there's nothing new there, it probably isn't much use for you. I have satellite, but I don't have a DVR or utilize on demand because I don't need any of the extra charges, personally, so it would be great for me if it were free. Also we already know Hulu has been looking to make money and working on a subscription based service for the PC for a while now. Talks are of it being $9.99 a month for a Hulu Pro account, exactly what extra stuff that gives you I have no idea yet.
