Yea, Ever since GI changed its cover layout, they've done nothing but release impressive wrap around covers. Almost worth collecting really. (Y)

Yep just got my GI this morning in the mail so have to read the article soon, but right away from skimming through it (I had not seen this thread yet) I was like WTF with the new look.

Also, the setting looks like it could be France or Italy, at least imo.

Still US, but a city inspired by New Orleans, instead of New York. Which is awesome, personally.

Does the article explain why they decided to completely change the art direction?

They said the biggest thing from feedback, watching people play the first one, etc. was that players were indifferent to the character of Cole. So the redesign is part of making him more a character people have an emotional investment in one way or the other. They also mentioned the redesigned helped lend itself to better animation for his parkour type movements etc.

Yeah sounds really damn cool that it is inspired by New Orleans. One thing the article mentions is that there are "freaks" that come out of the swamps, and that Cole has to be careful in the swamp areas, as water is still not good for an electric dude. :laugh:

Just finished infamous, i love the twist at the end pretty epic game. That chain lightning power when you are on a power grid is pretty badass.

The only problem i have with a sequel is you spend the first game building up these awesome powers like chain lightning how are they going to handle that in the sequel, are they arbitrarily going to just remove all your powers at the start so you can build them up again?

Thats just a copout way.

No, you'll have your powers in the sequel, such as rail/power line grinding. remember how cool it was when you finally learned it in the first? lol

you'll have a whole new set to learn come the sequel, keeping most if not all learned abilities from the original.

There is no way they are going to let you have all the powers you have at the end of the first game at the start of the second they are way overpowered.

According to the article, he gets a beatdown from the Beast towards the beginning, and realizes he needs to go to a different city to get stronger before taking him on again. They may limit the powers that cross over (like in the beginning of GoW2, you only had one magic instead of all 4), but I don't think they'll do the "lose all powers" thing. Plus he's getting new elements involved, possibly.

Game Informer also lets loose details about Infamous 2's storyline as well as its setting. The game actually begins in Empire City, the locale made famous in the original Infamous. Kessler has bent time and done all he could do to prepare Cole for his showdown with the demonic creature known as The Beast, but Infamous 2 starts out with Cole getting beaten badly by his foe and nearly dying as a result. Cole needs to become stronger, but revving up in Empire City isn't going to do the trick. This is where a new city, New Marais, comes into play.

Do they just intend to change Cole's appearance and continue on like nothing changed? Does he undergo complete facial reconstruction in the game or something. Seems ridiculous to completely change how a character looks, 'just cause'. The new Cole may look more 'likeable', but its still a stupid move in my opinion.

I also agree with Richard Hammond's comment. The whole basis of the original story is lost if he loses his powers at the beginning of the game.

Kessler had basically been getting Cole ready for a showdown with the beast

, so if he loses all/most of his powers at the beginning of the second, that just goes against the whole point of the first game. Or if he discovers completely new powers,

why would Kessler not have done this in his timeline and completely eliminate the need for Cole

? Retaining your powers like Lightning Strike at the very beginning would just make the game ridiculously easy though. I'm very interested to see how they'll handle the transition of powers between the two games while realistically continuing the story arc.

The first infamous was awesome, and was obviously written to have a sequel. Hope they can pull it off though.

That is a HEFTY comparison made.

What if they do it similar to how they transitioned from GOW -> GOW 2 -> GOW 3?

I totally agree with you that having all your amped up skills in the beginning of the game would make it too easy.

The new Cole doesn't look like a bad-ass anymore :(

I enjoyed the first game but that was repetitive so hope they can do something about that to mix it up a bit.

But don't think any of those snazzy powers from the first game are going anywhere. In fact, you'll start InFamous 2 with immediate access to most of the attack and traversal powers you had to earn over the course of the first game.

Those powers aren't just back; in a lot of cases they're improved. Sucker Punch has especially focused on making the traversal abilities quicker and more fun to use. The flying-squirrel-like glide ability now propels you forward more quickly to let you cover more ground, and the electric grind ability that let you skate along power lines last time has now been extended to vertical drainage pipes and horizontal ledges, letting you zoom around New Marais' architecture far more quickly than before.

And most interesting of all...

And on the latter, the team is still thinking about how it will attempt to carry over your choices from the first game, and how new choices will be implemented in this one. He did say the plan is for InFamous 2's endings to diverge radically based on your moral alignment.

I agree with DM that I don't like the new Cole voice actor, but the animations, gameplay, and most of the overall look seem to feel like inFamous, which is good. Improvements look to be well done as well. *thumbs up so far*
