causa45
Hey guys, I've been looking for a new action oriented racing game and two good possible choices have been released recently, Blur and Split/Second. Both seem to have similar ratings and even content, but can somebody please give me some facts about both game and the pro's and con's of each? I don't want both at once (at least not right away), so please give me some advice and info. :) Thanks, causa
UKDarkJedi
Having played both (Blur on 360 and Split/Second on PS3) I would personally vouch for Blur. It has slightly better control response and handling, and is out and out the more fun of the two in my opinion. Graphically they are both quite different so that would come down to your personal preference. From what I've seen Blur may also have slightly longer playability, although some of the modes in Split/Second seem more varied whereas blur has fewer such varied modes and is more about out and out racing against your rivals. the thing that lets Split/Second down for me is the thing that actually sells it: the breakers. Once you've seen them, you've seen them, and getting them timed right on a track you know well every single time means it loses a lot of longevity imo. So yeah, Blur get's a +1 from me. That's a pretty good comparison, if nobody else makes such a quality post like you, I'll get Blur :p Before you ask me why I made this thread and don't research for myself is that I cannot view any videos with the connection I have (look at the speed test). So basically, you guys are my talking eyes. :p
Neo003
I was on the same boat as you, and here on Neowin there was thread only for blur and not for split/second. Anyway after quite a bit of research on both, I found out that blur is kind of tough in some place where as SS is not. In the conundrum I choose to go with IGN review and chose SS over blur, and I can say I don?t regret a bit. I just want to play a racing game like an arcade that Mario kart, NFS and midnight club cram together. I'm not saying that SS is any different but at least the AI and you're on the same level. So my vote is for Split/Second.

So my vote is for Split/Second. You just explained Blur there sir. Well atleast for me and half the people that play it. I bought Split/Second and Blur tuesday. I love both games. Split/Second adds that "randomness" where your into the race and all of a sudden you get a quick powerplay to pull that if timed perfectly, can whipe out the 2 people infront of you putting you into first. Its also challenging with Elite race and Elimination(still on Riged the Battle or whatever season). Now, with blur, you get the Mario kart feeling with items. You can shoot them front or back, time them perfect. They can either be a Nitro(mushroom lol), Missles(turtles), Shock(blue trutle), Sheild(Star), etc. Its so alike its not even funny. But with that, you get the NFS/GRID Like driving and feel. I like the fact that if I over drift my camaro, it will spin out. Where as if they would of made it arcadey like NFS, I would be able to pull it off like nothing ever happened. Now its not TOTALLY like grid, as grid is almost perfect car sim. But the driving gets somewhat releastic when you cant just go 200, drift around a full 180 curve, and still make it. Nope, it should be timing the turn right, letting off gas, push brake and pulse the gas, then hammer it out of the turn and keep going, etc. Overall, VERY PLEASED with both games, also got them for $60. Got both for PC + my discount costed about 1 console game, so I said hell yeah, break out my controller and play both games XD on PC, instead of getting it for 360, althou I wil admit Blur's biggest community is 360 LingeringSoul 1 Share

Right... Hopefully that NFS/Grid like driving feel isn't NFS: Shift feel because that was horrible.
dfua
I just want to play a racing game like an arcade that Mario kart, NFS and midnight club cram together. As Sikh said that really does sum up Blur, a lot more than it does Split Second. I'm enjoying both but I think I'll prefer Blur long term. The biggest problem for me with Split Second is that you can't trigger anything behind you. The AI rubber banding is really frustrating at times and all you can hope for is enough time to take them out once they've passed you. With Blur the weapons can be both offensive and defensive, you can fire them in front or behind you. It feels very balanced, it can be tough at times but never feels unfair wheareas Split Second can. Split Second can also be very tough with some of the detonator and air strike levels. The US IGN review of Blur was very harsh and misleading, the UK one much better. Blur is a great arcade racer mashed up with Mario Kart with a lot of replayability, Split Second is a racing/action game that is very impressive as you go through but the impact lessens with each play. In the end both are great games.
.KICK
I would definitely pick up Blur out of the two. S/S loses its appeal after a while from what I hear. Blur is basically Mario Kart/PGR thrown together with real cars and tracks. Definitely a lot of fun. :)
Zain Adeel
if u ask me it is a little like shift.. the cars are very slippery if u start to brake it takes ages to stop. or slow down and u can hardly turn well when braking.. the gameplay of SS is arcadish but the drifting part is done well ive played both and for me SS was wayt more fun but thats mostly due to the fact that i cant remap controls for BLUR and i play on the PS3 type controller so im used to analogue for speed not triggers.. and i cant get used to that ive tried alot so mayb thats the reason its not so much fun for me.. but both games are way different.. they have their own gameplay.. feel and theme... so buy both.. ull love SS if u love to destroy cars in movie like fashion.
