treemonster
i used to use the name beermonster in fps games like cs, which came from cookiemonster and when i drank beer and played fps games my kill score would go way up magically. in mmo's i've used a wide vareity of names, some totally made up, some based on people's irl names, some lolz based. treemonster is because neowin already had a beermonster regged when i signed up way back when. i felt like an idiot since i'd already been lurking the news here for about 2 years at that point. but my own fault for not signing up sooner i guess. not a unique name anyways by any means. soniqstylz
I needed a "nickname" when I installed ICQ and I was playing Wild ARMs at the time.... and came up with *Rudy^, I used that for a while but lots of forums etc wouldn't take the *and ^ so I ended up cutting it down to Rudy Don't lie, we know where you got it. Jimmy0
My real name is James, and Jimmy is a nickname of that. Then I just decided to stick a 0 on the end of it for a bit of uniqueness.

Coldgunner
Had this one for the best part of 10 years now. Friend of mine had a similar name, so I took it and modified it. Came from the co-op gaming we used to do and essentially wanted a 'squad' with a common moniker. Did used to use 'the' before it (all one word) but I find it rolls off the tongue better as it is. I do get called it while Airsofting, quite strange at first but thats how I'm known.
Nick H. Supervisor Posted June 10, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted June 10, 2010 I don't remember where I came up with Intrinsica. I think I was looking for a different name to the one I was using at the time (Mercurial due to my hit and miss gameplay style online) and I just came up with Intrinsica. Meh, I don't mind it. I'm not in the habit of changing my moniker often.

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 11, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 11, 2010 Based on my first online alias: Anamorphic. Went through a bunch before deciding on Anaron (Anaman, Anaton, Anamin). I chose Anamorphic at first because it stuck out to me. As a kid, I'd read as much as possible. Everything from ingredients to what was written on DVD cases. And that's where I got the name Anamorphic from (see Anamorphic widescreen format).
shakey
Sh4k3y - My hands shake a little bit almost all the time except when I drink. That, and I can be pretty flaky when it comes to keeping up with dates and events, so I would be called shaky for not showing up :p Have used this nickname since 98 I think..... -Vivicidal-
I wanted something that was very unlikely to be taken because I hate trailing numbers, so I plucked for Vivicidal, where vivicide is the destruction of all life.

Denis W. Veteran Posted June 11, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 11, 2010 My 'gamertag' and online username are usually the same. It's derived from my email, which these days sounds ridiculously childish but I can't be arsed to move away all my contacts from it. More recently, I've appended Dr. Hax from DasBoSchitt's Gmod videos to my gamertag, or in some games, used that instead of my online username. It just sounds funny, that's all. Plus it's a gaming meme of sorts. :p

rajputwarrior
old one (rajputwarrior): if you know what a rajput is , that should be obvious. "A Rajput is a member of one of the major Hindu Kshatriya (warrior) groups of India. They enjoy a reputation as formidable soldiers; many of them serve in the Indian Armed Forces. During the British Raj, the Government accepted them and recruited them heavily into their armies. Current-day Rajasthan is home to most of the Rajputs, although demographically the Rajput population and the former Rajput states are found spread through much the subcontinent, particularly in North India and central India." current one (johnblaze00) is from method man's nick name (one of my fave rappers growing up) and is an aaliyah song (all time fave r&b singer). the 00 i just added to it... TEX4S
TEX4S My last name is Walker, whenever I would get to work, co-workers would always say "Walker, Texas Ranger" - then it was just shortened to Texas. I liked it since I went to Univ. of Texas, so I changed it to TEX4S.
Sethos
Well, I was changing quite often back then until I started playing frequently with a guy I met. He went under the name of "Ramzes" I believe and told me he liked Egyptian history etc. So I decided to read up on that stuff and stumbled over the name Seti or Sethos, as he was also called and took a liking to the name. Stuck with me ever since.

BajiRav
I couldn't think of anything better so shortened a typical Indian battle cry "Har Har Mahadev" to hhMahadev. Parvati Pateyah Har Har Mahadev in Sanskrit meaning "Victory to the Supreme God (Shiva), The Lord of Parvati". This was a common battle cry for medieval Indians fighting against foreign invaders. Also used by the Hindu Marathas during their wars against the Muslim Moghuls. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_cry
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted July 25, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 25, 2010 I just use jamesyfx, I don't have a 'cool name' as such... Just use my name with yfx on the end. :p I do have a laugh though when I find out what my friends' online names are. There was a guy I used to work with who went by 'The Entrail' or something. >.> Lots of laughs went his direction when it was discovered..
NikkiRox
My original gaming name was rhinestoner; which is a Linkin Park song - rhinestone, and I accidently added the R and I thought 'k, cool' and stuck with that. People kept saying I was a stoner, so I'm like meh and changed it to; Nikkirox Nikki is my name and just rox, coz I stole it from my brother's zdaemon name. But i'm actually getting tired of NikkiRox, but I can't think of anything good :/
MightyJordan
I didn't really come up with my name, my dad did. :p What happened was we were setting up Xbox Live on my original Xbox, but our house was having network problems, so he took it down to his mate's computer shop, and he set it all up and chose the name there. I raged a little bit when I first saw it, but I got used to it, and I've used it on almost every part of the internet I visit ever since. The latest exception is StarCraft II, as "MightyJordan" is too long, so on there, my character name is "Blackstar", and that came from Celldweller, one of my favourite musicians. He's still currently working on his second studio album, which is called "Wish Upon a Blackstar".
