What is Mortal Kombat: Rebirth?

Recommended Posts

I didn't see any hook, except for that "flash" (also Sub Zero's look). And even if you're right, it's, again, wrong. MK was about mystical stuff, realms, tournament on some island, etc. Not about devices and high-tech. I wouldn't be surprised if I see Reptile with an iPad...

You didn't see the thing poking out of the guys neck after they showed the blood drip into the glass?

That small clip was better than most recent full length movies.

There's no way WB would turn this down.

I totally agree! That trailer was pretty damn epic!

Welp, I figured I'd be the person to say it..

IMDB updated earlier tonight..

Fans of Mortal Kombat wondering when they'd get a taste of the upcoming feature film reboot of the franchise, today is your day. A nearly eight minute promo reel for the upcoming project has arrived online labeled as being from Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and I have confirmed absolutely that this video has Nothing to do with the upcoming new installment of the video game franchise and is, in fact, a promo reel for the upcoming feature film. And, good lord, this is tasty stuff - worlds better than any of the original film incarnations. There is a healthy noir overtone, the actors involved all seem to recognize exactly what sort of universe they are inhabiting and - best of all - they went out and got themselves a boat load of actual fighters to fill the parts.

It's real, and it's going to look like that for the new movie.

I think this was great. Theyve taken the whole dark gritty kinda real world (for lack of a better expression) approach that rebooted batman. The fantasy mythical crap is for the video games, get on board with the new way of doing things or gtfo.

This new approach works well, winner in my book and id cough up the extortionist price to go see this at the cinema :)

I'm not a fan of the series, and the brief bits of the films that I've seen have been God awful. This on the other hand looks awesome. I hope they get Jeri Ryan more involved.

First movie was actually pretty good. It was the second one that was pure trash. I still have no idea how I ended up watching it in the theaters. :/

Only thing that worries me is this :/

Warner Bros. looking to reboot franchise' date=' but Threshold Entertainment filed new breach of contract lawsuit to prevent it from moving forward.

I watched the clip this morning and was liek : "OMG OMG OMG !!!1111!!!!" . If this is the direction they want to take for a reboot, I'm so ****ing sold ! A bunch of serial killers and psychos battling it out ... It's gonna be ****in' awesome ! This is the kind of reboot that deserve to go forward.

P.S. : And if, by any miracle, it's an R rated movie ... Nerdgasm ! smile.gif

P.S. 2 : I think that Tony Jaa could make an awesome Liu Kang. Whaddya think ?

It looks like pretty mindless popcorn cheese, to be honest. I'd enjoy it in the way I'd enjoy punishing my body with a Big Mac and a large Coke. Not in the way I'd savor a medium-rare steak and a glass of wine.

I don't care if it's a mindless popcorn movie, as long as it's entertaining . yes.gif

Honestly as someone who was almost insanely obsessed with the games, and loving the first movie, I really like the whole mystical / supernatural aspect to the franchise. But watching this clip... ohh man I REALLY want this movie to happen! I dunno how they would handle some of the more "mystical" aspects like Rayden, Shang Tsung being from another dimension, stuff like Goro, etc... I don't know if they will keep these core elements but without them, I am wondering if it would still work.

Anyways, here's hoping they get a greenlight for a R rated movie with a fairly decent budget movie!

Honestly, this is pretty sick. I love the gore- it's disgusting and raw! To the person that did not see the scorpion's hook going through the guy's throat, all I can say is watch the darn clip again please. I'm sold on this and hopefully WB gets on the bandwagon and make it into a movie. I love Jeri Ryan as Sonya. I haven't seen her since Star Trek days and I must say she fits the part! Make this into a movie, WB!!

If it manages to be be picked up by WB(which I see no reason why not, it was epic), then expect to see a lot moreof these kind of promos surfacing in the future.

Speculation has run rampant today with the debut of a short "Mortal Kombat" film (subtitled "Rebirth") that made its way anonymously to YouTube. Now, Latino Review reports that the film is, as many theorized, a test for a potential R-rated film reboot of the video game franchise.

The short is directed by Kevin Tancharoen, the director of last year's Fame, and features a cast that includes name actors like Michael Jai White (Jax), Jeri Ryan (Sonya Blade), Matt Mullins (Johnny Cage), Lateef Crowder (Baraka) and Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion) with fight choreography by Larnell Stovall.

Though there is no guarantee that these actors will play the characters in a feature film version or even that a feature film will actually happen, the short is already a huge success online, with the word "Kombat" already a trending topic on Twitter.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!! This is so wrong on so many levels. Why cant they just let the game franchise for this die? They screwed up making that rated-g garbage with dc and thats what killed MK. They dont need another crappy movie that takes alway and drastically alters the origins and appearance of all the MK fighters. This movie will be such an epic phailure they will lose so much on it.

Mortal Kombat is a movie franchise that has been missing one thing - the blood and guts that we all loved from the video games.

Now it looks as if we're going to finally get the rated 'R' reboot we fans deserve. Kotaku has the first look at the Mortal Kombat test video shot for Warner Brothers to get funding for a full blown hard 'R' MK movie. Yes, this is the direction they plan on going for the Mortal Kombat reboot. And I've got the exclusive goods on who played who.

* The short was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who did the remake of Fame last year. Judging from this short, Kevin is the perfect director for this movie.

* Jacks is played by Michael Jai White. Michael played Spawn and was in Undisputed II. Michael makes a great Jacks (Jax).

* Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager.

* Baraka was played by the very talented Lateef Crowder, who plays the Brazilian fighter in Undisputed III.

* Scorpion is played by Ian Anthony Dale. Ian plays Kazuya in the upcoming big screen version of Tekken.

* Johnny Cage was played by up and coming martial arts sensation Matt Mullins.

* Still working on who played Reptile. Will update when I find out.

* The fight choreography was done by Larnell Stovall. Larnell did the fight choreography for Undisputed III and is one of the best fight choreographers in the business. You want to see the fights you deserve? Then you fans should DEMAND he be the guy in one charge for this reboot. Click HERE to read the exclusive interview I did with Larnell.

* I know who might be playing Sub-Zero, but don't want to mention it in case it screws something up. He'd be perfect for the part.
