Togggle images prevents "calling home"?

Recommended Posts

I ran across a bit of advice that apparently is commonly offered in MS newsgroups.

It states that "if you place a shortcut to Toggle Images (which controls "Show pictures" in Internet Options/advanced) on your Quick Launch toolbar or wherever, you can also use it to prevent spam HTML emails from "calling home."

I tried searching for further info supporting this notion, but the only thing I came up with was a 2 year old thread at SpamCop

http://news.spamcop.net/pipermail/spamcop-...uly/016617.html

It says that toggle images doesn't work in Outlook Express.

Since I use OE, I'd like to know for sure.

Is anyone else familiar with this?

Thx,

- J - :D

yes, spamers do use images to confirm if your email is valid.

but since you use OE you deserve to be spammed.

Mozilla Mail has an option to render html but don't load any multimedia content or javascript

TheBat! has it's own html rendering engine that support basic formating features, and none of those exploits that you get from Outlook.

switch to secure email client and you won't have to worry about spam(as much)

In general, I always delete spam unopened, but once in a great while I'll open one by mistake.

I just wanted to know if "toggle images" deactivates the email web bug in OE or not.

If not, it seems to me an important detail to be left out by MS MVP's when dispensing advice.

send it to yourself and see if that image will be downloaded w/ images turned off

Well, if I had those skills I probably wouldn't need to be here asking this question
