does StyleXP expire?

Recommended Posts

I have beta 3 I think, since it was a small file 395KB. Does it expire? If so how do I know how many days I have left since it doesn't act like a real program, when I double click on the .exe it gives me the toothpaste theme.

There was a rumor that StyleXP was going to charge for the program and the version that people were downloading was shareware, but I think that is false so in other words I don't think it will expire.

Sorry, it does infact expire. It isn't a rumour, mine expired. I haven't had StyleXP beta 3 expire on me (although it's meant to after 90 days), but Style beta 4 dies after 30 days - and yes, they do plan on charging for StyleXP (although I suspect this to change since their user base has completely abandoned them for the far better alternative). The way around this is simple, get a hacked version of uxtheme.dll that's on a thread here or you could probably get away with using the uxtheme.dll file StyleXP has already installed, uninstall StyleXP and replace the file under the command prompt. Vuala.

i'm running style xp 4.2 and it sure does have a spot to enter your registration but like you said there is no mention if it is crippleware that expires after X amount of days. i was wondering baout this as well. can anyone confirm the registration status?

suprfli,

Sorry for not speaking professionally, but I think to confirm your hunch is to open up uxtheme.dll with ResHacker or increase your computer date to past 90 days from the date you've installed your StyleXP.

I don't know what I did... but I installed the first version of StyleXP, and many days later installed the newest version. After finishing up, I disabled the StyleXP program from starting up and it has not bugged me about a program expiring ever since. Could this be the solution? I dunno...

Because we don't want to pay $20 for one modified DLL file, that's why.
