mAcOdIn Veteran Posted July 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2003 Take it back to your cable company and ask for a surfboard cable modem. They're way better.

mAcOdIn Veteran Posted July 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2003 Well then your only options are: Put a splitter right at the first point of you're cable. Run one cord all the way to your modem, then you can split the other line all you want. But you want as little interference as possible on the line that goes to your cable modem. If you bought a cheap splitter from your cable company you might be able to get a better one for free from your cable company. Second option is to see if there's a way you can upgrade the modem itself. See if it has a website where you can get a new bios or eeprom whatever they call it I forget. Anyways your cable modem has a configuration page that you can get into. It's possible you can flash it to a newer version. But I donno much about that brand. And you can call the cable company and ask them to check your lines. If you complain enough they may replace some cabling or equipment.

mAcOdIn Veteran Posted July 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2003 (edited) Try typing 192.168.100.1 in a web browser and see if it gets you to your modems diagnostics page. There you'll have some logs, and should be able to see what kind of power it's getting, or where it's getting hung up on connecting. digipoi
Some cable companies dont "like" you using your own cable modems. Some cable companys dont "let" you use them either. Thus is the case over here, preventing you from ever running properly or even running at all. Could be the case on your side.

digipoi
sounds like if the light aint coming on, usb or nic wont really matter much.
OPaul
sounds like if the light aint coming on, usb or nic wont really matter much. When you unplug a cable modem from USB the lights go out, so if it was USB and there was a problem with USB drivers like I had with mine then that would explain the problem. digipoi
I guess that could be true, as he didnt say which light it was. If it was the cable light, then it would still be lit even if you are unplugged.
