Cam
i have a few questions im hoping someone can help me with... i am in the middle of building a website with plone... and when im done...or close to done...i will need to get it up and on the web... first of all...we already own the domain..and have it pointed to a host we are paying for... so i just wanna know for sure..how to point the domain to a host computer in the office? and secondly... in the office the router gets the internet connection via dhcp... then the computers get the connection from the router via dhcp... can i just specify an ip on the host machine instead of dhcp? and i of course would assume i would have to allow traffic to it through the router... i think thats it to start... im sure i will have more questions but any help would be appreciated to get me on my way... Thanks. Cam

Joseph Zollo
Since you have a dynamic IP setup, i'd recommend a service like deerfield.com, now if you want to use a subdomain of one of their domains (ex - yourname.linux-dude.net) it's free, but if you want to use the domain, it's gonna cost you. Once you signup for the service, you'll be given DNS information to be entered at your dns registar (ex - register.com, godaddy.com). After that, you download the DNS2go client that must be running so it can update your domain name with your IP address as it changes. You'll also have to forward port 80 (standard HTTP server port) to the computer hosting the content, if you're hosting FTP, and Mail Servers you need to also forward ports 25 (POP3) and 110 (SMTP) to that computer. The downside to this is that your evil ISP may block port 80 (I know mine does :() so just set IIS or Apache (or whatever web server program you use) to use another port.
