Eidolon
so clearly he and others were not affected by the emp, but theyre ships were. so how can they not be affected if theyre machines??? technically we humans are bio-machines anyway, and as all know, our brains and systems all work on electrical nerve impulses... so even humans should be zonked by an EMP. tcm
nope humans are not affected in any noticable way by an emp.
Eidolon
humans are not affected in any noticable way by an emp. if you could show some real science of that, id be interested to read. Cuz if thats so, then why are we, by say, sticking our fingers in an outlet, grabbing a downed power line, or being struck by lightning?
Leif
emp electro magnetic pulse, ie the wave sent out by a nuclear bomb, has no affect on humans. the purpose of the pulse was originally designed for nuclear weapons to knock out electronic devices which were out ot the initial blast range of a nuclear explosion

Cuz if thats so, then why are we, by say, sticking our fingers in an outlet, grabbing a downed power line, or being struck by lightning? because anything fries with enough voltage through it, EMP is not the same thing. my problems with the theory: A) they never said humans nuked the machines, just blacked out the sky. B) WHY? Why would humans keep this AI around. Atleast with humans in the matrix, there is a reason, maybe a little weak, but its a reason, to provide power for the machines. Leif
electromagnetic pulse (EMP): 1. The electromagnetic radiation from a nuclear explosion caused by Compton-recoil electrons and photoelectrons from photons scattered in the materials of the nuclear device or in a surrounding medium. The resulting electric and magnetic fields may couple with electrical/electronic systems to produce damaging current and voltage surges. May also be caused by nonnuclear means. [JP1] 2. A broadband, high-intensity, short-duration burst of electromagnetic energy. (188) Note: In the case of a nuclear detonation, the electromagnetic pulse consists of a continuous frequency spectrum. Most of the energy is distributed throughout the lower frequencies between 3 Hz and 30 kHz.
error404ts
FRom FOXnews.com: "The E-bomb mainly affects electronic equipment. It could cripple enemy communication systems and could stop civilian infrastructures such as power plants, manufacturing, hospitals and transportation, from working. It can scramble phones and computers and knock out various facilities, and cause lights to blink out. Fluorescent lights and television sets will glow eerily bright, even if they're turned off. Electric wires and telephone lines will melt. Portable digital devices such as Palm Pilots and MP3 players will feel warm to the touch, their batteries overloaded. Computers will be toast. The E-bomb isn't harmful to humans, unless one is set off near a hospital or anyone wearing a pacemaker. Although testing is still ongoing to verify the effects on humans, scientists do know that if someone with any electrical implants were hit with megawatt, high-powered microwaves, the fluid in their body cells would vaporize into steam immediately before they even realized what was happening. If a person was caught in the sidelobe of a beam, or a weak reflection of the main beam off a metal surface, he or she could suffer from burns and permanent brain damage." Eidolon
Well, ive known long about the Microwave bit.. my father works in aviation and he's told me stories of people who had the unfortune of winding up in front of a broadcasting MW transmitter atop control towers or such, ... instances where people have actually had holes burned right through their hand and other fun stuff. As for the EMPs, i may just have to go do some research into that topic now. Im really curious why they wouldnt affect the human electrical system at all. Thanks! MEMO.INC
any electromagnetic radiation can interfere with any electric flow. The thing is how much it interferes (sp?). When a nuclear bomb is detonated it expells high energy (high frecuency) electromacnetic radiation, according to einsteins photoelectrical effect theory a photon (light, a kind of electromagnetic radiation) contains a certain quantity of energy that depends of it frequency, when you radiate any metal with electromagnetic radiation it will produce a certain quantity of electricity ecause of excited electrons (they get excited when a photon hit it)... Thats why superman is protected from kryptonite radiation with plum (sp?) that metal have a lots of electrons distribuited in many orbits the radiation is absorbed by plum... Also thats why broadcasted tv works, they radite your tv's antennas with diferent electromagnetic frequencies producing an electric flow that is translated to images... thats why also almost any metal will do as an antenna.... So if you have an unprottected electronic circuit and you radiated it.. the data will be corrupted and if the frequency is too high it can fry it. (thats also why you shouldnt put metalic things into a microwave, micowave radiation is high frequency waves so it will cause the metal to gain energy in forms like heat and electricity, making the metal to move and possibly hiting the protecting net that keeps the radiation in the microwave) Also.. electromagnetic pulses or radiations interferes with the magnetic field created by the flow of electrons, stopping them. ------------------------------------- As in humans... the brain cells work mostly with chemicals, so the sinapsis isnt totally stopped. Also the brain and the well protected by the skull wich is a net of calcium ( metal) wich protect the electric flow. all people radiated with high frequency will die.... the metals in circuits are more unprottected from radiation than the brain so you need less energy to stop a circuit than stopping the brain..... Also... if an electromagnetic pulse stops your electric flow.. you will die. but only your electric flow, an other electric flow will be started by chemical reaction and will have all your memories, all your feelings but you are death. for other people maybe its not noticeable because it lasts fractions of seconds...... (this is my theory of electromagnetic pulse effect on human) In the matrix, The robots should have been fried with those nukes, in fact they "supperior" electronic flows are more affected by radiation than our "inferior" ones. If you see animatrix you will notice that all the robots in 01 that are being nuked look like working robots (with working i mean the kind of builders such as bi66er with shovel and everything) so, they are unexpensive workers, they dont need such things like radiation protection and stuff, so they should have been the first to fall. -------------- I liked the thories, i found some parts allmost matching and making a perfect endig for the trilogy. But i think that the wachousky bros. (sp?) will leave the tilogy with an unexplicatory ending so they can spill the rumour of clues in the trilogy for getting the ending so people will buy it or rent it in blockbuster to watch it all over again.. and dont forget the game....
