[E3 2010] Sony Press Conference

Recommended Posts

The Move ended up being about $30 more than I was thinking. I was hoping the bundle included the nunchuck.

Yeah, I was really letdown by that. Forgot about that. They had a chance to really stick it to Microsoft and didn't, IMO.

Are you kidding me?

He has a 360 console as his wallpaper, don't pay much mind.

It's more than obvious MS wasn't the best in E3 this year.

Nintendo were the best by far with the 3DS. They actually announced things that we didn't know about.

3DS was good, but we have know about that for months. They did have some cool announcements (Donkey Kong is awesome). But it was epic meh overall. All 3 were actually.

Now I have a chance to say the same, "Are you kidding me?" to you as well. This year had to one one of the biggest downers in a while. No huge announcements and almost everything was leaked beforehand.

I do. I had a PS3 slim one before this one. So what is your point?

Yes, it is obvious. LOL.

Doesn't take away from best show. I called this years E3 to be a bore-fest weeks ago.

@AWBrian, sure you did. You must be some richy, that bought a ps3 just so you wouldnt be called a fanboy when trashing it. L.

Oh please. You were allowed to say your part in the Microsoft thread and now don't give him a chance to say his?

God, I realize why I never come in the PS3 section. Seems if you don't own a console you're not allowed to have an opinion (not saying it's any different in the Microsoft or Nintendo sections).

Best show of products already known? I kind of get what you are trying to say but I think Nintendo pulled away with actual surprises making for a much better "show". How can you get "pulled" into a presentation when you know what's coming? Don't tell me you are hinging everything on the Portal 2 announcement.

The biggest thing they linked to the service was exclusive content for games. Agreed? Well, why on earth would you tout the content if you don't get to keep it. That's extremely weak in my book. This "service", if that's what you want to call it, really does nothing. That's because it's not a service, it's entirely content-based. And if I pay for content, I want to be able to keep it, especially since I download it -- I don't stream it, I download it, I pay to use it.

Do I rent movies on live? No, absolutely not. I do not. If I were to use the Zune implementation of Xbox Live, I would buy the content. But, again, you are comparing apples to oranges. This isn't movies. I pay to go to a theater and watch a movie for a one-time fee. I don't pay to utilize content for an existing game. If I want the content, I buy it. And that's what you're doing with this "service" -- you're paying for it.

It is NOT the same thing. Quit freaking bitching and implying I'm trolling. People go into the Xbox Live threads and bitch about the service, and they have the RIGHT to, whether or not they own a 360. They don't want the service. So they DON'T buy it. I think this is a weak "service." I have every right to express my opinion as you, I don't give a crap if you own a PS3. I love playing PS3 games with my roommate. I think it's a great console. But I want a reason to own one. I really do. Right now, they don't have it. Sue me for expressing my opinion, my God.

First off you are right, you do have the right to comment on it, so I definitely do take back my comment about you not owning a PS3. With that said, you did not say it just once, I believe it was twice now, how you did not own one and they were not giving you any reason to own one, so yeah, I without a doubt consider that borderline trolling. If all you did was say this sucks and that sucks, I would have let it go and would not even have thought about it, as I had no clue if you owned one or not, but mentioning the fact you do not own one and saying whatever sucked, well that just does come off like trolling to me. It does. No mention of you do not own one, and I never think twice about it. I myself made fun of how horrible Move looked, I have no issue with people making fun of anything, I never have and never will, but when you accompany it with "give me a reason to own one," then yeah, that is borderline trolling IMO. But again, I do take back my comment about owning a PS3 as it was uncalled for, especially since it had nothing to do with my point.

And I do rent movies on Live, always have and never had an issue doing so. I also pay for Netflix and do not expect it to let me keep renting movies if I stop paying them. So that is why I completely disagree with you, as I do not see it as such a travesty I am only renting the content. I also do not see it as comparing apples to oranges, as content is content. Whether it is a movie, or a game, it is meant to entertain me. Would I prefer to keep it? Of course, who would not, but I do not see it being so awful, especially since I do view it as an add on service.

So you view it as a horrible way to give people content, I view it is a service that provides content, so let's just leave it at that.

BOT - I did not see Nintendo's conference, hoping I can see it now, but I did enjoy Sony's more than MS overall as they showed more games I am personally into. From an announcement perspective though, I can say easily that Nintendo has won just based on what i saw on Kotaku, and neither MS or Sony impressed me all that much with announcements.

Larry sorry to interject, but the financial/frugal guy inside me is screaming right now, why pay for anything else when you have Netflix?

No, total content overall. They did have the most overall 'exclusives', whether its games, or content. Really dude, allow me this time to extend a kind 'are you kidding me' ? Just cause you knew about the games shown takes away from the fact they were shown ?

Decent conference I would say, though a bit on the long side. I think people would have liked it more if Nintendo hadn't blown everything out of the water a couple of hours earlier.

Definitely 1) Nintendo 2) Sony 3) Microsoft

Good point about actually showing them off, that is commendable. For me though, the anticipation of something is heightened when I don't know what games will be presented. Twisted Metal may be awesome for some, but if know that is being shown I'm put off because the game isn't for me. Why did I watch a show for some games I won't be playing you ask? I want surprises! :p I like the anticipation that builds while watching a show even if I'm being shown games that will mostly come on for both major platforms. I like the feeling of knowing there might be a game for me that will be coming out that I have never heard of.

No PSP2, no the Last Guardian, no ICO/SOTC HD remaster, fail all round.

Kevin Butler pretty much saved the conference.

I don't know why people expected a PSP2- the 3DS was only announced 2 months ago which isn't enough time for them to prepare a handheld with similar specs to the 3DS...which still no one knows. Plus they've still got loads of upcoming games, so a PSP2 couldn't come any worse for them.

Nintendo announced Donkey Kong Country (I loved the originals), but I don't have a Wii, and it is not strong enough to coerce me to buy it. Golden Sun is the only other Nintendo title I'm really excited about, and thankfully I do have a DS. Nintendo needs new IPs. As much as I loved DKC, I want to see something more than retooled side scrollers and Mario games.

Microsoft's presentation was horrible. Kinect looks like nothing more than a gimmick, and there is not one strong title releasing for it (and if rumors are true, it is ridiculously expensive). Reach, Gears 3 doesn't offer any substantially new visuals or gameplay (albeit Gears has now introduced an innovative new color--green).

Sony's presentation was OKAY. Move actually looks like it could be something more than a gimmick--and Sony is really pushing the new hardware by integrating Move tech into "real" games. Unfortunately, Move was about it. There was no mention of The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 13 Versus, Kingdom Hearts 3, an Uncharted follow up / Naughty Dog new IP, no new surprise IPs. Essentially, Sony's presentation had no surprises. I feel like I wasted my time watching their presentation.

Nintendo > Sony > Microsoft

All three sucked this year, though. Innovative new games have taken the back seat to gimmicks like motion control and 3D.

 I really like movies, and sometimes I just either had not rented a movie or did not send it back, and/or it was not on Netflix On Demand, so I would get it through Live. Honestly I barely use either now that I use my PS3 to stream with PS3 media Server, but the answer is I just definitely really like movies. I probably watch on average 4-5 a week. Actually a lot of the movies I rented through Live would be late night, my wife fell asleep on the couch, and it was movies I wanted to watch but she did not necessarily want to see. A whole lot of that actually.
