Sleeper Veteran Posted July 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2003 In Decemember last year I signed up for Freeserver Broadband for ?27.99 per month, but around March time my circumstances changed, I was running low on funds, plus Im moving to Birmingham so will no longer require the service. So what I did was ring the Freeserve accounts line and asked to cancell my account, just to be told I couldnt because I'd entered a 12 month agreement! Even after explaining my circumstances to the lady she was adimant that I could'nt cancel!!!! grrrrrr..... she even said to me that even in the worst cases you cant cancel it, and one of the examples given was a customers house was being pulled down, yet they still had to finish the 12 month contract! So having no luck with speaking to them on a one to one basis I canceled my Worldpay account (which is how freeserve takes payment) and email freeserve informing them that I'd cancelled my service, I also informed the bank to stop any payments! 4 Months later my internet connection is still working, yet I am not being billed nor have I recieved any communication from freeserve with reguards to payment for the service. Im stuck with what to do? do u think that there gonna demand the money I owe at the end of the 12 months? Guidence as to what to do would be much appreciated. ReAnimation
I thought it was a pretty standard practice for Broadband ISP's in the UK to tie you into a broadband service for at least 12 months. At least the 'big' ones do that. Your not the only one that this is happened to and unfortunatly theres not alot you can do since its normally in the small print when you sign up. I've read stuff about other ISP's that bill people for the full 12 month contract if they cancel early. Its a tough call to make really. Yes, you have valid reasons for cancelling your contract with them, but you agreed when you signed up to a 12 month minimum term. :/ I would attempt to get in contact with freeserve again, explaining the situation and letting them know your adsl line is still active, hopefully they will see things from your point of view, but to be honest mate, I doubt it - they will probably demand the cash from you.
