Singularity

It's nothing like Half Life 2. Not even worthy of being mentioned in the same breath! It plays like a second rate MW2/Bioshock clone. Hell even some of the animations are recycled from MW2. Even comes with it's trademark texture pop.

Worthy of a rent but don't buy it.

I meant in the sense of the gravity manipulation :p

I was thinking the same thing when I made my reply tonight, but thought I imagined it lol. So now I have 2 replies pretty much saying the same thing, oh well :p

It's not as in depth as HL2, it's almost the same as Bioshock. Only with the same puzzle played out every 30 mins or so. :D

The look and feel of the game looks a lot like Wolfenstein. And for me Wolfenstein failed epically, I have no interest in playing a game in the same sort of vein.

I had a chance to play the PC version at a friend's house and it's pretty fun. I don't know if I'd buy it for $49.99 though, maybe $39.99. I'll probably just wait for a price drop before buying it. The levels are highly-detailed and the game play is interesting. Of course, it isn't as "open" as you'd think. The trailers for the game exaggerate your ability to manipulate time. There's only certain things that you can age forward/backward in time, which includes enemy soldiers (but that uses up a lot of energy).

I'm about 60 minutes in and it seems like a fairly solid FPS. Their whole angle and gimmick for the time being has my interest, but what does jump out are the poor animations. I've havent seen the limbs blow off of more lifeless AI in an FPS in a pretty long time like they do in this. Especially the "creatures" I've seen thus far.

I would best describe it as a budget Bioshock / Half Life 2 / F.E.A.R hybrid. It may very well lose my interest sooner than later but I do plan on checking it out again.

Excellent game good blend of the above mentioned and perfect use of the Unreal engine by Raven (Y).

A couple of fixes:

If you are experimenting low volume on Windows 7 alt+tab to desktop, click on volume, then mixer and turn volume up on "Singularity".

To fix texture streaming edit download Coalesced_INT.bin from GameCopyWorld (sorry delete it if not permited, can't find that on another place).

Edit: found a DIY guide here

That volume issue drove me crazy for a good 10 minutes. I actually thought my headphones had broken until I launched another game. I finally figured it out on my own by chance and fixed it by doing exactly what you said above, so good thing you are sharing this as I never bothered to share myself as I thought it was just on my end. Such a weird issue.

I have not played it since I last posted but still plan on doing so. I'm actually renting it for the 360 from gamefly so very well may just wait until I get it from them as no point progressing much further on the PC just to do it all over again.

So im actually really impressed with this game. Loving the single player. I think theres a lot of detail the devs put in. The functionality of the weapons, the time manipulation is fantastic. It can get pretty scary at times. I love how you briefly travel back in time in some areas or see ghosts of ppl from the past.. screaming, running down hallways. I also like how theres some interaction with acouple of your AI buddies. You see the animation and have to boost them up.. or you fall down a pit and your Ai buddy pulls you up and you see him grab your arm.

I also liked how in some areas monsters grab your arm. Overall pretty impressed. I also love listening to the recordings laying around. Watching projector movies.. you can trigger random things, like fountains, drawers, phones, typewriter.. makes the enviornment see mthat much more interactive...useless but still great detail.

And it definitely feels very bioshock to me. The atmoshphere.. the weapon system, the perks, all very cool, very similar to bioshock (thats not a bad thing)

thanks for the info DM, heard that it's very much like Bioshock. but is it any good overall? Now that i've decided not to get Starcraft II upon release, the gaming budget for July has some more give, so if this is a good game you guys reckon, maybe will give it a buy.

So I tried this game on the 360 last night for about 2 hours. My initial impression was that Raven was basically trying to remake Bioshock. Instead of a plane crash, you get a helicopter crash. Instead of a statue of the head of Andrew Ryan you have a statue of the head of Stalin. Instead of an underwater city, you have a secret island. Instead of Eve you have E99 Tech. Instead of splicers who are mutated from too much adam you have citizens mutated that are exposed to E99. Even the pistol shooting feels very similar.

What really convinced me that this was basically Bioshock were the film clips. They even used the same exact harp music used when you get new abilities in Bioshock. Everything was just way too similar to me. You also get voice recordings to fill you in on the story, but unlike Bioshock, you have to stay relatively close to the tape players in order to hear them.

There are also notes that fill you more into the story, but at times they get very hard to read.

It's surprising this game uses UE3 yet the graphics look very outdated for a shooter. The textures are really low res, and as a whole, the graphics really reminded me of Fallout. For a large-scale RPG, Fallout's graphics and animations were forgivable, but for an action FPS like Singularity, it's very hard to overlook. Also, it seemed like no art direction at all went into this game. Everything looks drab and dull and sometimes I would get very confused about what I'm looking at, unlike the creative and rich art design of Bioshock. I also don't understand why they made things like sinks and telephones be interactive if they serve no gameplay purpose at all. But I guess games like Fallout do the same so I guess that's okay?

Although it may appear I'm ripping this game apart, it really is a solid shooter. Nothing outstanding but I think they did a pretty good job creating a creepy atmosphere. The story is compelling enough, and the time manipulation can be fun.

Is the game not very serious, as the Eurogamer review stated? I don't mind silly games (I'm really looking forward to Bulletstorm, loved Duke Nukem), but I hate games that are neither serious or silly but somewhere in-between. (Yeah, I'm probably one of the few.)

I'm loving the game so far. On the PC the textures are way better looking than the 360 obviously. And I don't have that texture streaming bug everyone is screaming bloody murder about either. Performance is amazing, the game just runs like butter even on my craptacular rig here. The MP seems quite interesting actually, it's to bad no one is playing it yet. SP so far has been quite fun, the story seems to be good and I love the time stuff so far. Can't wait to get deeper into it.

Eh it doesn't really have a tone. It's semi serious. Nothing overly dark or brooding about it. It's certainly lacking in any over arching atmosphere like Bioshock.

Agree with you on all the Bioshock points, didn't have an issue with the graphics though, some parts of it look really nice. The level of detail inside the village was great too imo.
