gigapixels Veteran Posted June 16, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2010 I was only able to catch the end of the MS one and all of the Sony one. Nintendo has some cool stuff (sure, they're oldies, but they're classics, and I'd love to play them again) but announcement-wise I liked Microsoft's the most. Sony just annoyed me with their disses toward MS and Nintendo, and they had Kevin Butler come out to kill time they couldn't fill (at least that's what it seemed like to me). Unrealistic
I was overall disappointed in all three conferences this year, but they were all roughly equal. Microsoft - 10 + / 8 - +++ Gears of War 3 looked amazing. Day One purchase from me, and only one of two Day One purchase from my entire line up. ++ Halo Reach had a nice surprise and is always quite entertaining for me. The other Day One purchase. + Kinect looked awesome and the UI is going to be what makes it for me. Not a Day One purchase, but maybe a Month One. + Dance Central looked exciting, only because I know it's another platform to get my non-gamer girlfriend to get addicted to achievements. + Metal Gear Solid: Rising +/- Netflix Search is coming.........finally +/- Xbox 360 S came out (look at the back of the console). Good for some, suckage for others. -- Still using proprietary Hard Drives for the Xbox 360 S. -- No pricing on Kinect and I'm disappointed that there was no mention of XBLA Kinect games. I don't want $50-$60 shovelware like the Wii. - I will need another power adapter for Kinect. - Star Wars Kinect better be significantly better if this type of gaming experience can only be found on the Xbox platform. Sony - 8 + / 7 - ++ Twisted Metal just looks like epic fun. I cannot wait to purchase this one. + Killzone 3 looks damn good. I need to honestly buy the other two and get prepared for this. + inFAMOUS 2. I ended up falling in love with the first game after a shaky start at the beginning and even though the voice sounds different, I can't wait. + Time Crisis can finally be a normal priced game because of Move. +/- Gran Turismo 5 finally got a damn release date. I will be watching the reviews for this, because I don't think it will cater to my play style. +/- Portal 2 announcement was nice, but I will be playing it on the PC or Xbox 360 personally. +/- Playstation Move looked pretty ****ing awesome and absolutely kills the Nintendo Wii now, BUT the price is too high. Sorcery looks awesome, but it isn't going to sway me to purchase the controllers just yet. I'm sure down the line though, I will be purchasing it. -- PSN+... This is going to change the service significantly and I don't honestly want to pay for their service. We shall see in the coming year just how many features get moved to PSN+. I understand the business mechanics, but still. -- Playstation PSP is still the same damn thing. It's time to move on and maybe something better. They need a new analog stick (look at the 3DS). Nintendo - 8 + / 7 - ++ Metroid: Other M just looks amazing. ++ Donkey Kong Country Returns is going to be the nostalgia factor for me. Absolutely cannot wait. + Kirby's Epic Yarn took me a few minutes to understand their take on it, but overall I think it could be pretty interesting, especially with the level changes. +/- NBA Jam looks great, but I think it would have been better using Xbox 360 Kinect / Playstation 3 Move. +/- Epic Mickey looked too casual for me, until the side scrolling mechanics. I will wait for reviews on this, but definitely keeping an eye open. +/- Nintendo 3DS is nice, but not for me and not what I want to carry. -- Goldeneye 007 just looks meh. It should have been re-done by Rare, and been on the Xbox 360. The graphics look terrible and I am immensely disappointed in it. -- Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword just looked boring to me, especially with the amount of WiiMotion Plus ****. It seems like the battles are going to be disappointing/frustrating and require more work than they honestly should. I hope they really work on the mechanics, but today's show was just another strike against the Wii. It's old hardware and even Playstation Move looks more exciting. Non Exclusive 3rd Party was really where it was this year. ++ Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit - This is something I have been waiting for, for years. I hope it doesn't disappoint me. ++ Bulletstorm - I wasn't impressed with the Game Informer article, but after seeing the full preview at the conference, I was dying to purchase it. + Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 looks to be an even better game than the original. + Call of Duty: Black Ops actually looked great. + Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock + Rock Band 3 + Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 + Assassin's Creed Brotherhood + Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier + Dead Space 2 + Crysis 2 + Driver: San Francisco +/- Vanquish - looks good but it's SEGA. - Dead Rising 2 has the same retarded 72 hour functionality. I'll wait until the game is $10 dollars because of that decision. So far E3 has been about the 3rd Party for me. The big three all had great innovations, but also really ****ty news, or plain lack of news, not to mention a lot of these games are coming out next year and not this year. When I was younger, E3 was about showing games you were getting in a few months, not in a years time. All in all though, I'm excited and look forward to all these bad ass games. The absolute WORST show was Ubisoft though. Terrible, terrible show. The Wii's success is what is causing this. Also, why on earth would I ever buy a ****ing laser tag system that needs to be tethered to my computer? Ayepecks 1 Share
Emn1ty
Personally, as a 'hardcore gamer', I think the MS Conference blew stank nuts. Sony gave me the news I wanted as a hardcore gamer. As for Nintendo, again it's not my type of playground which is why I havent bothered with their conference. Sony pushed more cross platform games than exclusives and a majority of their conference wasn't about games either. I think you statement about the 360 was probably becuase of Natal's ownage of the show which displayed really no hardcore games at all (Sony, admittedly, didn't really show anything interesting either. Playing Socom with Move isn't really THAT hardcore). Before Natal we had Gears 3, Halo Reach, Fable III and Metal Gear Rising. All exclusives and all footage and info we hadn't seen before. Natal also displayed things we hadn't seen, which is nice. Sony, on the other hand, showed us things we knew about and gave us no new info beyond Twisted Metal, PSN+ and Steam/Portals 2. The Wii just had a few games which are love/hate and then one new hardware announcement. It was lackluster at best. I sat through the entire conference for both Sony and Microsoft and recapped the Nintendo one after the main Sony keynote. None of them were outstanding in any way IMO. soniqstylz
Nintendo has had value on their side for users then. The move is a Wii Copy. The idea of motion control might be (even though Sony has had tech demos testing for years, during the PS2 heyday), , but as far as the tech, you have no idea what you're talking about. Unrealistic
<snipped> There were three exclusives to each console that looked damn good. The rest were great 3rd party games. Both systems are for the "ultimate hardcore gamer". It seems like you looked at the MS conference and because they didn't show multiple videos showcasing 3rd party non-exclusives, that they don't have them coming. NFS: HP, Bulletstorm, Star Wars: TFU II, CoD: BO, GH: WoR, RB3, MVC 3, AC: B, TCGR: FS, DS 2, Crysis 2, Driver: SF, Vanquish and DR 2 are all coming to both consoles. The only difference is Sony showed most of those off in videos. Edited June 16, 2010 by Nicholas-c Spring cleaning...

macrosslover
They were all meh to be honest. The MS conference was nice but not great. We already knew Halo, Gears, and COD were going to be there and they delivered just what we expected. When Natal came out it also was just what we expected. I don't like that new name at all but oh well. Most of the games seemed like wii ripoffs, especially that yoga game not even going to lie about that. At first I thought the dancing game was stupid, but then when I watched it again I'd say it's it's a sleeper hit. The menu navigation of Kinect is definately great. The Sony conference didn't show anything that made me say OMG. When they got to Move, some of the games were nice like the wizard one some of the seemed like they still needed to work on getting them 1:1 in movement. Killzone 3 looked good. The Nintendo conference was ok. The Zelda footage was nice and they were smart to show that first. However they could have showed more gameplay and more features. I got the feeling they forced motion plus in the game to justify it's existence although the game would probably be the same quality without it. I lol'd at the Goldeneye video. The graphics are crap, it looks like they just ported the N64 version and called it a day and they should be ashamed they put Daniel Craig instead of Brosnan in it -_- and changed the story up some. The sad thing is I know the Wii could do better than that, but it's like Activision didn't even try. That game looks horrible for a November release. Metroid M looked great and DKC looked like it would be fun. The 3DS was a major disappoint for me. Looking at the casing, it just looks to close to a DSi. They didn't or couldn't really show any games in motion. The Kid Icarus video was just that a video. The only way we are to know if the 3D effect is the real deal is based off the word of the people in the theater, but I can't tell with my own eyes until they release demo units to the public near release. A final note, I wish Nintendo would learn to stop boring their conferences with sales figures. MS didn't do it, I didn't see Sony do it (but could be wrong), I wish Nintendo would catch the hint. soniqstylz
Did see quite a bit of lag on the Tiger Woods / Move demo, not sure how much of that is built-in (a game like SOCOM needs to be much more precise, lag in a golf game is somewhat okay). I missed the first part of the show out getting lunch, so I don't know what they opened with. Would've been nice to be there to see the 3D stuff on the screens, I'll have to check some reviews to see if any of it was noticeable or even looked good. After playing with 3D @ GDC, and seeing the games that will support it, I'm sold on the concept, we'll see on the execution (early reviews on the V's aren't great, and ****'s way out of my league financially anyway). Thought Twisted Metal might bring it a bit more graphically, but there's time for polish, and it's online, but it looked like a downloadable title in terms of quality. Looking forward to the gameplay on inFamous 2, but not feeling the change in art direction, I thought the comic book look made it work so well, and set it apart somewhat. Glad to see Valve finally getting behind PS3 for at least one game, we'll see if this continues, or if the port turns out badly and Gabe ****s on the console again. Heroes On The Move looks like a blast. No PSP2, no Resistance 3, no Agency, no Agent, no Last Guardian. Ah well, there's always TGS and GamesCon. George P Global Moderator Posted June 16, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted June 16, 2010 I think this was said already, but let me just drop it again, this E3 was all about 3rd party games, and these are all multiplatform so while Sony showed more hardcore games, they're not exclusive except for 3 or so. The same number MS had more or less. Of course Nintendo just shows it's own stuff, either you like it or not, I don't much care for yet another mario or yet another DK or w/e, i'm passed side-scrolling platformers. As far as new tech goes, if that's what you like (and I like tech in general) then it's MS > nintendo > Sony. Shoehorning Move into all your "hardcore" games just for the sake of having something is not worth it. If you can play the games with a controller you already have then why spend $100 on that pack or $30 for the glowing dildo (if you already have the camera)? And what if someone comes over and wants to play co-op move or w/e, then you need another controller so there goes another $30, keep adding up for the more you may want or not (it seems 4 player co-op is big now). the 3DS is nice, if you care about 3D, I hate portable systems in general, my eyes aren't that great and small screens are a pass for me when it comes to gaming. But hey, that Icaros game looked good.

Smigit
I haven't watched them yet but from the highlights I'll go with Nintendo > MS > Sony Nintendo is miles ahead if not so much for the 3DS which was pretty much expected but for the new Zelda title, Donkey Kong, Mario Paper, Pilot Wings, Golden Eye Remake/Refresh, Star Fox and possibly Ocarina of Time titles. There's a lot of important franchises in there. MS I think gets points because the new XBox is fairly nice IMHO and Kinetic still good, but they haven't really seen any mention of any new games I care about. Gears, Halo, Forza ect may all be nice but this was all known about ages ago and furthermore, none of it seems to be software that will sell Kinetic. Last year was about the hardware, this year should have been about the software and in blogs ect I havent seen anything yet that makes me want to buy Kinetic game wise. Sony looks to have done ok with Twisted Metal but the premium PSN is a double edged sword. Sure, gameplay is still free but the premium version isn't as compelling over the free version as XBox Live Gold is over the free version and while you can avoid it now I wonder what it means for future updates to the service...I can see most of the features being put in the premium model from now on in order to further differentiate it which in effect will take away one of Sony's strong points. I guess Valve support is nice but less of a deal than I think some people make out given theyre games traditionally have played better on PC anyway and never really needed hugely expensive systems to run. Still nice.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted June 16, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2010 For me personally: Nintendo > MS > Sony What I think will be the overall opinion: Nintendo > Sony > MS For me, all the 1st party games MS showed are on my preorder list and will be the games I play the hell out of this holiday. That said, I can appreciate Sony showed off a lot of good games for their audience, but they just aren't my thing. Nintendo easily blew them both away though with old classics like Pitt & DK. I wasn't sure I'd buy a 3DS but after the line up announced, it's not even a question to me any more.

Anooxy
For one it won't be better for shooters. The Wii has accurate pointing so the target aim is good. I think a pointer and infra-red is better tracking than a camera tracking a light-ball. And how is it cheaper. Move = PS3 (?300,)Move(?60), Other Move Adapter (?20) = ?380 Wii + Motionplus + Nunchuck = ?180 Lol, fail, you're including the consoles and PS3 is the winnar right from there (price and value). ~Johnny
Nintendo for me I think, especially in comparison to their previous two years worth load of rubbish. Okay I can't say I'm liking the look of the new Zelda, and I probably won't buy Donkey Kong or Kirby, but it's nice to see Nintendo seem to have got their head screwed back on. And Saints Row on 3DS actually got me excited  Like GTA, but more fun :p Can't say the same about Microsoft's though. Seems like they're turning into Nintendo of the past two years @___@ Although Zune music on the 360 I'm personally excited about (seeing as a I usually listen to most of my music via my 360), and I like the ook of the new dashboard. And Ghost Recon is my favourite multiplayer game of this generation :woot: Sony... well they were play. Nothing too exciting, nothing too retarded. Still they've been playing GT5 for so many years now I've lost interest in it :p
Waylander
If anybody is still in doubt about Nintendo being the best, see here. so they are continuing to recycle decades old games rather than come up with anything new, usual nintendo fail plus 3d on a tiny mobile device is about as pointless as you can get
