Hedon
Valve Software has announced that Portal 2 will be coming to PlayStation 3."I've been pretty outspoken in my comments about next gen consoles," boss man Gabe Newell joked during Sony's E3 conference, "so I'd like to thank Sony for their gracious hospitality and not repeatedly punching me in the face."Newell said that Portal 2 would be coming to PS3 in 2011 - when the PC and Xbox 360 versions are also expected - and that it would include Steam features like cloud saving. We then got to see a trailer of the game in action (it looked hot) and hear from our old friend GLaDOS. "We can leave our differences behind us for science, you monster." My link This should make up for the sloppy port of Portal 1 on the PS3. I just hope Portal 2 is longer than before.
soniqstylz
Wasn't Portal the only part of the Orange Box that ran pretty well? Regardless, glad to see the Cloud saving, would like to see more games incorporate that.

Regardless, glad to see the Cloud saving, would like to see more games incorporate that. Cloud saving is the best new feature out there. I want that available for all games. I have Orange Box for PS3 and 360 (I got the PS3 one free in a drawing at a local buy/sell shop). It's pretty bad.
Doli
Mouse and kb on PS3 version?
Chasethebase Reporter Posted June 15, 2010 Reporter Share Posted June 15, 2010 This was the surprise? Disappointed. Still at least they're taking PS3 development seriously now. On The Orange Box TF2 never got patched once, HL2 was ok and Portal was ok, the weakest of the three releases, with PC coming out strongest by a mile. Still, good to see that they'll be properly developing on all three platforms.
soniqstylz
Mouse and kb on PS3 version? Would be WIN, but I think you're more likely to see Move support.

That they would be working with all consoles? Lame surprise imho.

Jimmy0
Good news for PS3 owners, we will no longer get a gimped port of a Valve game. (Y) (Although for me, its PC only for Valve games!)

Also good news that PS3 owners will get updates for future Valve games, most likely in line with PC updates. The quote I saw was 120+ updates for TF2 on PC, 5 for XBox, because of the nature of XBL (and zero for PS3). I wonder if mod support will come, like UT3. Hedon
It would be slick if we could tie our Steam ID to Portal 2 on our PS3 :)
soniqstylz
It would be slick if we could tie our Steam ID to Portal 2 on our PS3 :) Ha, that would be nice. And get x-platform achievements / trophies. Steam does that with GFWL, at least for a few games (Fallout 3 comes to mind).

I think MS caps updates at 5 a year or something silly. You'll never see as many updates on the consoles as PC. Even with support from Valve you're still buying the inferior version imo. Vanilla TF2 compared to the PC version is a different beast.
smiff
I still havent completed the first one, got stuck and gave up. This looks brilliant though. I assume it'll be stand alone, not an 'Orange Box' like affair - unless HL3 magically appears from nowhere.
soniqstylz
Mac/PC x-platform co-op with PS3 planned. http://www.thekartel.com/zylvin/blog/2010/06/17/valve_plans_to_have_cross-platform_co-op_between_ps3_and_pcmac_for_portal_2 Valve's Portal 2 presentation at E3 was packed full of gameplay videos showing off new features and an intriguing story line. While co-op gameplay wasn't shown, Valve developer Erik Johnson did reveal one new bit of info. Valve is planning to allow PS3 players play with PC/Mac players. When questioned on the cross-compatibility between Steamworks and Steam, specifically playing co-op on a computer with someone on a PS3, he said it was "something the team is gunning for." We also confirmed with Valve developer Mike Dunkle who said "The plan is you will be able to play between console and PC."
