Hedon
Sony has unveiled the premium PlayStation Network service that SCE president Kaz Hirai indicated was under consideration recently.Speaking at Sony's E3 conference, the platform holder said PlayStation Plus would launch on 29th June worldwide.Everything that is currently free will remain free, we were told, including online multiplayer gameplay. However, punters will be able to fork over ?14.99 for 90 days' access or ?49.99 for annual access to exclusive features and content. These will include special offers, and early access to some demos and beta trials. We're also told that subscription will allow limited-time play of full games - PSN releases, PSone classics, minis and also proper releases - with a changing line-up on offer each month. There will also be a library of games available for indefinite play to subscribers for no extra cost. Perhaps most interestingly - and definitely controversially - one perk of the service will be the option to schedule your PS3 to switch on and download demos, patches and those odious firmware updates automagically. My link Great option for gamers. Bummer that if you let your subscription lapse, the free games and DLC are no longer for you to use. Is anyone getting this? I need to see what all the details are first before I decide.
Guest
plus the fact that most good content will be made exclusive to PSN plus :(
The Teej
I'm really surprised they didn't announce PS2 BC alongside this.

x9248
Just read about some of this on kotaku As more of a PSN gamer, I'll definitely get this. Yes you lose games after the sub ends, but supposedly some are given free (I think I read Wipeout somewhere). I know people are thinking "well I paid $50 for it so I should keep it" but that's really not the case. You paid $50 for the service, not the game itself. While I think it would be rather nice of Sony not to think this way I can understand their logic.
Hedon
Not a big deal really. I think you need to pay to use this feature on the 360 as well. BoredBozirini
So for $50 I can play full games for a limited amount of time? Like renting a game, only they supply the lineup? If its like that then I'm sold. That's all I need to finish the average game (of course games like Fallout 3 and the likes are out of this category). Every month they pick a game and let you play that until your subscription runs out. Don't expect to get all the good PSN games.

But for $4.16 a month I think its a good deal, plus the other benefits are a plus.

Emn1ty
BTW guys, it isn't $50, its $60 a month. Not that it really matters. I like the features and such but they really are entirely relative to the games available and what "exclusive DLC" means. If you get exclusive DLC and other content that you have to pay for and your service ends will you still be able to keep that content or will you have to fork over the difference/lose it? AbandonedTrolley
Best way for people to think of this is as Sony offering a rental scheme, which for the price for a year I don't think is too bad. They aren't trying to compete with Live here, they already do the bulk of that for free.
Pablo2008jedi
Full Game Trial: Try before you buy with a one-hour trial of selected PlayStation Network titles and Blu-ray Disc releases. I really don't think you will get full BR releases as a download, most ISPs can't handle that amount of data. Even 4Gb is a stretch for most. Oh and you'll would probably have to wait 356 days to download a ful BR release, considering the PSN is so slow. (No its not my network, my wireless works fine, ports are open PS3 in DMZ, I've tried everything except LAN cable and I can't do that. Laptop, mobile devices and xbox all download at high speed)
x9248
Details of this great new service, including a list of content available for the first 2 months will be on playstationplus.com between now and the 29th, but don?t forget to get on the Store and sign up before the 3rd August to get the added bonus of a free copy of LittleBigPlanet. As you all know it will go away if you don't renew, but hey it's better than not giving us any games at all no matter how long you can "keep" it. Jimmy0
Apparently cross-game voice chat is not coming... UPDATE: It appears all mention of voice chat has been removed from .playstation websites from other countries. We are checking in with Sony to see if this is a temporary removal, or if the feature is going away for good - or, we should say, before it even launched. *************** UPDATE 2: A Sony rep has informed us that cross-game voice chat "was not announced as part of PlayStation Plus," which we understand as a 'no further information or direct comment at this time' sort of thing. Perhaps we'll hear more in the near future. Source: http://www.psu.com/news/9241
