Cross-Game Chat Comes (And Needs PSN +)

Recommended Posts

Well, we can agree. :) I'm not trying to be overly negative about the situation, just I personally don't want to have to start paying for their services. I'm sure in a few months it will be enticing enough to buy it, but for the 24 1/2 million PSN users, I do think they are about to get jipped.

And by the way, that statistic is from an article I read about them having 35 million PS3's sold and that 70% of their install base is on PSN.

Oops, I forgot to also say that I found a secret PNG (by secret I mean I made it from a better source) that doesn't have jaggies like every damn picture posted online. Enjoy!

I just posted this in another thread, but apparently cross-game chat is not coming.

Apparently cross-game voice chat is not coming...

UPDATE: It appears all mention of voice chat has been removed from .playstation websites from other countries. We are checking in with Sony to see if this is a temporary removal, or if the feature is going away for good - or, we should say, before it even launched.

***************

UPDATE 2: A Sony rep has informed us that cross-game voice chat "was not announced as part of PlayStation Plus," which we understand as a 'no further information or direct comment at this time' sort of thing. Perhaps we'll hear more in the near future.

It is free. One does not have to pay subscription-based fees in order to play online games, download demos, theme etc. on the Playstation. They are just adding features that did not exsist to a fee-based subscription plan while leaving everything that was previously free as it was.

The same cannot be said about the Xbox. One has to pay if one wants more than a months trail.

You can download demos and themes using the free Xbox Live silver account.

Sony already makes more money from PSN than Microsoft does Xbox Live...and that's with the $50/year subscription.

Weeks after the GOLD has it.

According to MS, it's one week.

So NO party chat is coming? Interesting. I wonder if they are just pulling the info and releasing the info later.

Looks like you can't point the blame at EA any more for not allowing it, because their old games don't support it. Or whatever BS story was made up all that time ago.

Sony just weren't ready to release it and now want to capitalize on it.

& Unrealistic does have a PS3, and has done since the launch. Been friends with him for years.

Wasn't it just a few months ago during the height of the PSN subscription rumours, that some Sony official that worked on the chat part said that "If there was a subscriptions, and if they had a cross game chat, They wouldn't rip off their regular customers like that"... yeah, lasted long that one :) should be in some thread on these forums.

Also didn't the PSN+ announcement already say that they would be offering premium demos earlier to subscribers ? so why are peopel arguing about them not doing it if they already said they would ?

Some demos earlier, the premium (full-game, play for an hour) demos will be PSN+ only. Also betas (I will wager a $50 subscription that AC:Brotherhood will be one) offered to PSN+ first.

Demo's on PSN are quite rare... I wonder if they did it on purpose to make Plus more appealing. On 360 demo's are mandatory (please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't own a 360) but on PSN it feels like we hardly get any, especially for PSN exclusive games.

Honestly, if they are gonna promote this as a major feature of Plus they better have demo's for every game that's to be released.

Demos aren't mandatory for full games, but they are for Xbox Live Arcade. I wish Sony would make them mandatory for PSN games, because I don't like putting money out before I can at least try it, and I have still yet to find a good website that reviews Arcade/PSN/Indie games on a regular basis.

While not "journalistic" at all, article does have a point - Sony has only denied xchat as part of PSN+, but not that it's not a part of 3.40 or not coming to all users.

I guess we'll find out one way or the other come June 29th!
