jackwanders
Ok, well it's not my computer, it's my housemate's. He bought a D-Link DWL-520+ wireless PCI card (802.11b), installed the drivers, and everything worked fine. He got online no problem. But about 10 minutes later he suddenly lost the signal and the computer restarted (he's running WinXP on a 2yr old Dell, btw). During the restart, he got a 'Plug and Play' error...forget the exact text now. He's been trying to fix it to no avail, and just now the computer crashed and during shutdown he got a blue screen with a 'Parity Error' as follows: **Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware manufacturer. MMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error Call your hardware vendor for support. *** The system has halted *** What's going on here? Anyone have a clue? OPaul
Do the problems go away once the card has been removed?
jackwanders
yeah. it definitely only happens when the card is in the computer. He's trying the card in someone else's PC right now. i'll let you know if anything happens.

AndyD
Jack, it could be the mobo. Have you tried updating the BIOS? For the life of me I could not get DLinks wireless card to work on my nephew's pc. It would just hang when Windows 98 would boot up. From what I've read, it seems that older motherboards have problems with wireless nics, at least in the case of DLink cards. Try and see if you can find a update for the bios.
uniacid
strange I got the same card in my other computer and it works perfectly fine
jackwanders
@xstainDx: he checked the RAM...it was fine...even called DLink a few times. didn't get anywhere with them. @AndyD: he checked a few help communities online and that seemed to be the general notion, that a BIOS update was needed (his Dell is old, as i mentioned before). he updated his BIOS last night and for the moment, everything seems to be ok. his computer's been up and stable since last night. ::crosses fingers::
AndyD
heh hope it works out for ya. I actually had to build my nephew a new pc (out of my own pocket). because I couldn't get it to work.
