HawkMan
Or you could play Forza 3 that, Like Titoist mentioned, has over 400 "premium" cars. Of if you count the cars like PD does. and count all the variatiy of cars with different engines and body kits. and since Forza lets you customize cars. By the same account, Forza has at least 1000 premium cars ;)
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted June 18, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 18, 2010 Wow, news to me, never knew there was "premium" cars. Definitely something wrong in PD camp. So much for being "perfectionists".
x9248
I hate to say this, but don't count out the fact that they love to drain our wallets even more with DLC. I don't own it but I'm willing to guess Forza had DLC cars as well. Knowing DLC from other games, it will be car packs that are only 256kb in size... ie already on the disc

I agree, I thought that the 'premium' was just cockpit modelling, not the whole car! My 'assumptions' were that all cars were new models.
rajputwarrior
thats why i thought was taking them so long to make everything because they were actually modelling all 1000+ cars. what the hell have they been doing for the last few years then? Total DLC's ? well maybe, but most of them are free samples or theme packs for the dash or avatar gear. there's only like 5-6 DLC you need, 4(5?) csar packs and 1(2?) track packs. The VIP thing you don't need if you didn't buy the CE, though it's nice to get a new free full value car every week.

sn00pie
Those 200 premium cars are going to be unbelievablly STUPID detailed, while the other 800 will still be much better than Forza 3 and anything in the past. If you guys look at the new bout of screenshots, all the muscle cars are standard cars, can you tell from the outside? No, not really. The only real thing is that the windows are tinted and you can't inside. The outside is still damn well rendered, except the bottom of the cars is left out on the 'standard' cars, while the premium even have the bottom rendered perfectly. Ji@nBing
IGN chose NFS: Hot Pursuit over this as racing game of show for E3. That does not bode well. You'd think GT5 would have won hands down.

Richard Hammond
Why the hell are you all complaining? Do you realize how long it would have taken to make 1000 high res cars for GT5? The game would never come out! It probably takes them a good two weeks+ to make one modeled car - times that by 1000 and you get your answer of when the game would come out if you were to make 1000 high res cars! We are complaining because its taken them so long and all they have to show for it are a handful of fancy looking cars and 800+ "just ok" looking cars, the game doesnt have to have 1000's of cars in, give me a few hundred really high detail looking cars and i am happy. Well they did! just ignore the other 800 and you'll be right ;) As a big GT fan I'm hugely disappointed by this news but I'm still buying this game :D primarily because of the TopGear Test Track :p but the rest of it looks awesome and the standard cars don't look that bad to be honest. Well at least one advantage of owning both consoles is I can enjoy both games [GT5 + Forza 3]...between the two of them, I'm covered for my car racing fix

WastedJoker
As long as the driving experience is top notch, the "realism" of the cars graphics should be secondary. Still, it's a joke that GT5 is taking this long.

Standard car: So you're absolutely fine paying for a new game which uses 80% old resources? Yikes... This beats Wipeout HD in terms of recycling, at least the game was a PSN title & they didn't spend 5 years on it.

sn00pie
The majority of the cars (more than 800) fall into the Standard category and are made up largely of the rides that have been included in all past GT games. But that doesn't mean they're simple copies. All are painstakingly modeled to take advantage of the PS3's graphics shader. They also sport physics-based damage modeling, and they'll show scratches, dust and dents collected during races. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1099202p1.html
Andre S. Veteran Posted June 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 19, 2010 Neither is GT5, so a strange point to be making :/ The point was : you're lucky to get 200 high-res cars compared to us on PC. The remark that we could play Forza 3 was irrelevant because Forza 3 is not available on PC.
Hedon
From the same link: The Premium cars, of which there are more than 200, will have all those features plus fully rendered interiors and true damage modeling. That means panel separation and deformation – the ugly stuff. We need that in the other 800 :(

Couldn't agree more but for me GT games fail tragically at car behaviour both on-road and especially off-road and the driving experience is not even close to an experience GT games have sales due to visual details and variety of cars. Dont know what the deal will be with Gt5 but i havent really seen any company change their gameplay style on their titles as they release sequels.Certainly hope Polyphony will make the difference and actually make this more of a driving simulator but so far the sense i get is that Forza pwns GT5.
