Hedon
whoa.. that sucks. I was expecting top quality for everything.. (N). From what I have read, they have made a crap load of quality improvements to the community features though. Online is looking to be brilliant. Not to mention, native YouTube support uploading (in HD).
AbandonedTrolley
I'm wondering how the reported 13mp photoshoot mode will look on these 'standard' models though. I've no doubt that the game will still be amazing given all the additional features they seem to have crammed in there. But this if true on the PS2 reference is quite a bit of a dampener. Either way, I can't wait till November comes along!

HawkMan
Me i love the cockpit view. Im disappointed when racing games dont have them. When your TV is already smaller than the windscreen of even the smallest sports car, especially at vieweing distance. then why would you make your view of the road even smaller by using a superfluous cockpit. Hood view is where it's at.

I wonder how many MB that will be in size?! Who uses cockpit view anyway? I didn't realize any sim racers used anything other than cockpit view. Most people turn off the HUD, and use the dash in cockpit view for all the racing. We just need the ability to have the steering wheel removed from the screen so it's not duplicating our racing wheel. Some PC sims allow you to remove the steering wheel from the cockpit view. Seeing less of the road has nothing to do with simulation. I would agree that most people use hood view, since most buyers of GT and FM are probably casual people. But the hardcore sim racers, including myself, use cockpit view when offered. It's kind like in flight simulators. We never use the nose view or 3rd person view, always cockpit view. But whatever works best for you is the best route to take!

I doubt you'll see many serious sim racers actually use the cockpit view, it bring nothing to realism. it only refuses your visible area of the road. which is already less that what the real car would offer, especially in conjunction with a 180 degree human vision. Hood view is closer to what you actually see in a car. and the really extra serious hardcore sim racers build their own cockpits. which makes it redundant anyway. In fact more casual players use the cockpit view than the serious/hardcore sim racers. Casual players are more into the dashboard eye candy. the hardcore ones, car about the actual sim, and the actual racing. so the people who use cockpit view is casuals who want the eye candy, and people who think they are hardcore and think having a visible dash makes them more hardcore ;)

Sorry got it wrong, 18megapixels, image clocks in at 3.2meg Just looked at the video showing the 'standard' cars and well, they look fine in motion tbh

Believe me, we use cockpit when available. BTW, I will have to upload a pic of my cockpit that I have at home. A friend helped put hydraulics in it too. Also visit the GTR forums (by SIMBIN), as well as GTPlanet. Believe me, we are hardcore, and hardcore cockpit ;) Sorry got it wrong, 18megapixels, image clocks in at 3.2meg 3.2mb and they are 18mp? HawkMan
Again, there's nothing hardcore about cockpit. With TrackIR or Natal head tracking it would be different though, since you could have much more zoomed in cockpits. which would mean the entire screen could be mostly the wind screen, and you would move focus realistically around the cockpit. instead of limiting your view to a 60% of what it should be, if you only count forward view, less if you could the full 360. a cockpit is different again, since you'll be sitting less than a meter away from a 40+ inch screen. if it's decent. and you'll have side views on top of that again. potentially rear view as well. Will be interesting to see if that is the approach they take with head tracking in this then or if they leave the viewing distance the same. Corris Veteran Posted June 23, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 23, 2010 ?Standard cars do indeed have a cockpit/dashboard view, just not nearly as detailed as the premium cars. The existing cars are not just being copied; they are all being generated properly to create authentic experiences from car to car.? igamereport Good, lol. Treemonkeys
So the premium cars will cost extra or will there be a version of the game that includes everything, or do we even know yet? I am already going to buy the game + steering wheel for this, I don't really want to spend a fortune on additional cars are tracks.
Pablo2008jedi
The only time I use cockpit view is for single seater cars, as the view restriction is part of the realism. But for "normal" cars, you don't have the wheel and dash stuck up your nose (like real cars, you have to glance down to look at speedo). The hood view for BTCC/Touring cars etc is pritty much the best compromise.

The "premium cars" are just called premium because they have spent more time on creating more detailed models etc. All 1000+ cars regardless of the standerd or premium branding are in the game. Boz
Why the hell are you all complaining? Do you realize how long it would have taken to make 1000 high res cars for GT5? Considering it took them what 5-6 years I'd imagine that would be enough time while other games have full damage, more "premium" models and have released one or two version of their games in the same time period. I dunno...maybe it takes a month? It was purely a guesstimate. To build a highly detailed vehicle in 3DS MAX, with mapping, textures, details.. for a pro it will take probably about a week. With the standard cars, you will see scratching, dirt etc. only thing missing will my actual body deformation and sadly, the interior view. Pretty sad, but those 1000 cars are probably the ones you won't be driving as much as say the Lamborghini's and Ferrari's imho. PD has about 180 employees, half of the Turn 10 team, which also get there modeling done by a third company. It is said.. they are significantly lower resolution. And those videos don't even look remotely as nice as the video replays they advertise as the GT5 experience. Also.. Polyphony Digital has 180 in-house staff.. Turn 10 has about 50 or 70 in-house staff while they use outside contractors and outsourcing some work to India. So their whole network is 300 people... not employees. And yet, they managed to release 2 versions of Forza prior to GT5 where Forza 3 has 400 "premium" cars.. I'd say that's pretty great. The bottom line here is .. that it doesn't matter to me.. i"ll get GT5.. but let's just be a bit objective here.. I appreciate the tracks and weather and night/day cycles and all that jazz... but 2 most important things to me are absolutely flawless and fantastic high resolution cars (because it's a racing game), damage because it actually creates a feeling of driving a real car and you have to watch out and the environments. But it's definitely disappointing that 800 cars will be "upscaled". In motion they might not look that bad, but basically these are the same cars, the same game mechanic as in GT4. Standard cars are really nothing more but imported cars from previous GT game. That looks like a rushed thing to me..and it really makes you wonder what the hell did these guys do for all this time.
