icie
I was trying to reinstall Windows from the files I copied to my hard disk from my CD. However, it gets stuck at "Finalising Installation" with the time at 28 minutes to go. I have waited for 2 hours, but no disk activity, no change, just the propaganda text changing. My system specs: 20 Gb Quantum Fireball HD. Onboard M'board sound Onboard M'board graphics Onboard M'board LAN 700 Mhz AMD Duron 256 Mb SD RAM At first it was stuck while "Installing Network", so I yanked out my PCI network card. So now its stuck at "Finalising Installation". I have basically taken out everything except the Hard disk, the CD ROM, the processor and the RAM. If anyone knows something about the BIOS/m'board settings that might be causing this, please inform. Please request any specs you need.
configure Veteran Posted December 29, 2001 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2001 Maybe, the reason that it stuck might happen because you copied files from CD to HDD. *Maybe* some files were not copied or *maybe* it was not suppose to be install from a HDD. That might cause a conflict at the "Finalizing Setup" stage. If possible, try re-install from the CD and see if the problem still persist.
icie
problem: How do you terminate the setup to re run it from the disc? I don't want to lose all the data (again).
radioboy
I had the exact same problem. I was installing XP on my dad's friend's PC using the same CD I used on my own. It would get to setting up network (about 32 minutes remaining), then restart and begin again from installing hardware. So I took everything but the RAM and HD out, tried again. It got up to finalizing installation (6 minutes), then restarted and did the same thing over again. Finally I gave up and put 98SE in .
