DrunknMunky Veteran Posted June 22, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 22, 2010 June 22nd, 2010 @ 12:22By Joe Anderson Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has said that only 30 percent of the company?s profits come from console games. Speaking in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Kotick said that he isn?t too concerned about the decline in retail sales because his company?s profits mostly come from non-console based services. ?I care a lot less,? he said. ?It used to be, I would religiously look at weekly retail sell-through data, but it?s a very small part of our business now. ?Today, probably 70 percent of our operating profit comes from non-console-based video games. So, while you might see a month-to-month change or volatility against expectations, that doesn?t really get us too concerned.? Gamasutra confirmed with Activision the meaning of ?non-console-based video games? as it felt it could cover downloadable content such as map packs; however the company replied saying that ?non-console-based video games? means just that. One of the main sources of income for Activision is that of World of Warcraft, which currently has 11.5 million active subscribers. http://www.vg247.com/2010/06/22/kotick-only-30-of-activision-profits-from-console-games/

With Starcraft 2 round the corner that percentage will loose a few more figures come next year. It's no wonder he's pushing the CoD MMO.

I highly doubt StarCraft 2 is going to make a massive dent in their console sales percentage. A single, one-time-pay game isn't going to do that, especially a PC game. If they were releasing a StarCraft MMO, well, that'd be another story. StarCraft 2 will sell like hotcakes, don't get me wrong.
+Neowinian Subscriber² Posted June 22, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted June 22, 2010 O well, they still make a lot of profit.

Xilo
What he really means is now that they've been merged with Blizzard, most of the profits are coming from WoW.
Chasethebase Reporter Posted June 22, 2010 Reporter Share Posted June 22, 2010 So basically, if we want to see the downfall of Activision, we stop playing WoW. :shiftyninja:
Tharp Daddy
I hope Kotick is treating Blizzard like gods - gold toilet seats, exotic fruits, etc. Without them they would be crap. LingeringSoul 1 Share
