SimplySchizo
This is really ****ing me off. I see no way to cancel a account. Just goto accnt and change Billing info in meantime. I can't find anything on it either, just contact Support. Edit: closest thing I could find. What is account closure?Account Closure occurs if you request account Closure (although we strongly urge you to consider Suspension instead of Closure), or if you are in breach of the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, or if we believe Account Closure is otherwise necessary to prevent fraudulent or harmful behavior. Once an Account is Closed, the Account may not be reopened, and all player data will be deleted, including any saved game data, active PlayPasses and any coupons or credits. SimplySchizo
Where's the Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 they feature on their site? They're not eve in their 'Comin Soon.." tab either. I really would've liked to demom these out.
Minifig
Anyways, I don't see this Onlive service making it. I was going to say "Weren't you one of the staunch supporters in our original thread about this miserable service?" but.. you're no where to be seen in the thread... The original Onlive thread where at least half of us said it'd be a failure. Where's the Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 they feature on their site? They're not eve in their 'Comin Soon.." tab either. I really would've liked to demom these out. Mass Effect 2 demo. And, Dragonage Origins doesn't even HAVE a demo, Bioware has said the game is too big to allow for a demo. Ayepecks
A. I believe I was about the only person on Neowin who believed the service would actually work :p So, this is my official "told you so" post. B. I still wouldn't use the service. I don't think it's as reputable as Steam (as in I question the longevity), and paying a monthly fee is crazy. If I pay for the game, I pay for the game. Unrealistic
Guess I'll just contact my credit card company and inform them. Inform them of what? You haven't even been charged yet and won't be for another 12 months. :p I think when it comes time to a renewal, they will e-mail you and you can decide from there if you want to cancel the service. I'm not sure why so many people seem to hate it, but I actually think it's a decent service. Granted there are obvious issues, which will need to be addressed if they want to be a commercial success like Steam, but if they don't **** the customers, it could definitely take off. Having said that, I have absolutely no intention of purchasing any games. I will, however, use this to watch other people play games as more and more come in and use it as a way to review current games. I saw some pretty cool things on Just Cause 2 that I've never really seen on any review sites and I'm too lazy to go looking for the best clips on youtube. Minifig
Someone on Digg just pointed out the big flaw: When you stop paying the subscription you can no longer play the games you payed for. Not to mention after three years they can remove games from the library even if you've payed for them. [sic] Linky. This thing is one big elaborate scam. Grinch
For all those that mentioned they had issues with connecting with the OnLive site. They were recently performing maintenance on their servers. Also, according to the support email they sent me. They are experiencing issues with the following browsers: Safari, Chrome, and IE8 (32-bit and 64-bit). Minifig
Oh Mini that's awesome. This thing is so set to fail. :/ I've been saying this from the start.. This thing is a miserable failure of epic proportions and once common sense gets out.. ---- EG my math in the original thread (which I posted on digg): Lets assume.. Xbox 360 costs, 320$. 320$ divided by 14.95$ a month= roughly 21.40 months. So.. in .. say.. 21 1/2 months you can get yourself an Xbox 360. Now, you have 8 dollars and 95 cents to spend per month for Xbox 360 games to be delivered to your door via Gamefly, you get one for as long as you want. Tag on Xbox Live which is 49.99$ per year. OnLive costs 179$ per year NOT INCLUDING THE RENTAL FEES, plus there's no voice support OR online support other than "Onlive" servers.. Let's see. A one time fee of 320$, and a yearly fee of 49.99$.. vs A continuous yearly charge of 179$ a year. It should smack you in the face that this service just is not worth it, and if you still want it after reading all of that, turn in your gamers badge and give some of us lowly gamers who don't have a lot of money to blow on crap like this some of your cash... because it's obvious you've got money to burn. Minifig
I just posted this up on digg too: I'll put this another way.You pay me 60$ for a game you want to play. I'll give you that game. In 4 months, I'll come and take away that game and you have no access to play it ever again. I'll keep your sixty bucks. Thanks. You now no longer have that game, or any access to it what-so-ever and you're down 60$. Would you say I scammed you? I think so. There are so many more ways how to prove that this is a joke. trag3dy
Considering you can get a brand new xbox 360 for less than $200 now, as well..
Spookie
I've been saying this from the start.. I've been doing the same but I was always focused on the quality of the gaming. But the pricing is the cherry on the top. They should have done something ala Spotify. Of course the pricing and features would need to be refined. But when you buy a game you should buy it out right then have the ability to download it and play it offline with DRM or stream it.
Ayepecks
Except.. it's not working. The service just launched and they're already having problems with it. How can you say it's a "success" when it's not even been up for a year yet? It's not working? That's news to everyone using the service, I'm sure. Yes, it just launched, and yes, they are having problems. Newsflash: Steam had problems in the beginning. I never said it was a success. I'd love to know how you got that from my post ;) I said it'd work. And it does. Everyone here was saying how there was no way in hell this service would work (I seem to recall many people on Neowin calling it literally "impossible" and that there'd be massive amounts of lag, which there is not -- unless you're on a horrid connection), how it'd be unplayable, how it was another Phantom, etc.

You're missing the point of the service. Your computer isn't the one rendering the games, it's playing the games remotely, essentially.

Yes.. but you're missing the point.. You buy a game for a period of time, and they can take it away, WHENEVER THEY WANT. Like I said.. I will let you buy little big planet off of me, for 14.95$. Go ahead and keep it for a week. Now go ahead and play it for a day. Tomorrow I'm going to come by, without any warning and pick it up. You've just been ripped off 14.95$ How do you feel? Any DLC, XBLA, PSN games, etc. can all be revoked if your gamertag is banned. If they ban both your console and gamertag, you can't just move the games to another console to play. You have lost them and all of your money. So I'm not sure why you throwing such a fit. They aren't the first company to do this and won't be the last. Also, I still don't know how you get On-Live service is 179/year, when it's $4.95 a month. It's $59.40/year before taxes and even then, right now they only service they are offering is the first year for free followed by the $4.95 rate. You're so caught up in this that you can't even admit it is a great technical feat that the service is even running, and running quite well. Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted June 26, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2010 I started the client and played Borderlands for a few minutes and i have to say that it looks good and works well however, it does not look as good as the full game does however, for a person that does not have a computer that supports the games then they are being given a chance to (rent) server space to run the games however, i do not see that it is fair to have to pay for the game and then pay to play it on a server when ultimately you do not get to keep the game unless you continue to pay them money. Unrealistic
DLC ≠ full games. I guess you can't read. I also stated XBLA / PSN games....aka full games. Sony and Microsoft both offer full games you can buy, including FULL 360/PS3 games, that have the same DRM as DLC and can be revoked.
