E_Chaos
To me, it's not a problem of how much, but rather HOW. If there will be an easy and secure way of buying mp3's (through my internet supplier, for example), I have no problem to pay as much as I would for a normal cd. Ayepecks
i buy the CD, would not pay for some lossy crap, maybe a lossless file, but then you don't really own the CD and the booklet... so no Ditto. Plus, you can rip the MP3s.
StOnD
I'd pay $0.50-$1.00 per song as long as its totally DRM-free. Otherwise, screw you guys I'm taking my business elsewhere. There is nothing I hate more than DRM. I'll decide how to store my music thank you very much.

redrope
I wouldnt pay anything for MP3s. I see MP3s as a way for record companies to get their music heard. However, nearly no one does what I do, which is to go and buy the CD if I like the songs. The way I see it is that they arent losing any money, because I wouldnt have bought the CD for one song anyway, but they are actually gaining money because I can find new artists I like and buy their CDs. However, its not a perfect world and it doesnt always work out that way.
xpablo
Why would I pay for an mp3 ? same as I would pay for an .mpg If an artist was to sell music on their site and all the money goes to them, then I would have no problem paying, once they have the money they can do whatever they want even pay the RIAA for all I care, but I'll pay the musician and NOT the Record Company or RIAA, and F * ck the store I buy it online, the artist can pay for their site costs etc. Eventually the RIAA will cease to exist anyways, you can never fight the worlds population at once, not even governments can do that. hoyablue
I'd pay 99cents for it. In our society there is something called "paying for services", the principle of downloading songs for free is stealing. I have done it before, but I guess my inner conscience doesn't want me downloading it for free anymore. Come on people... Although the price isn't the same, getting music for free is just the same as getting PC for free. Well, you can't get a PC for free unless you STEAL it or win it. So stop stealing. However, I don't agree with the way albums are circulated, the record companies charge an exorbitant amount for albums. The 10$ at the Apple music store is so much more mind easing then 23$ spent at Amazon...

Snowhawk
For mp3's, i'd pay nothing, but if the material I listen to is worth more than one listen, i'd be willing to pay for a vinyl or cd single of it, and if more material was good from the album, i'd be privy to purchase it. Mp3's is my method to filtering the quality of the material I'm likely to purchase

cal2002
$.25 would be a good price for an mp3. $5 for a whole album. just though i would add this, the RIAA and the subscription servies really dont understand this, why am i going to pay $10 for a mp3 album that i cant do much with, burn the songs a *few* times, transfer it to my mp3 player a *few* times. why not just go buy the damn CD for $2 more and have complete control over it. burn a backup, one in my car one at home, put it on my iPod then my Nomad MoVu. Stream it through my house. if they want us to pay for music and not keep stealing it they need to really understand this. if i pay $5 for a whole CD and they want to limit what i can do with, fine, but to charge almost as much as a full cd at the store, to then just limit what i can do. to add to that $.99 is still to much for a single song! most CD's average about 12 songs, even if u dont buy a full cd and u just buy the singles 12 of them costs as much as a full CD at the store. and again with a CD from the store i can do anything i want with it. Snowhawk
you guys are cheap. you do realize you live in a capitalistic society don't you? nothing is free not everyone lives in a capitalistic society... but your statement is correct, the cost of an isp, the gas spent to get to work, the energy required to walk to your pc, the time invested in actually searching for what you want, everything has a cost
