PS2 SCHP-50001 Release date?

Recommended Posts

when is the new ps2 coming out?

And, I have heard that the IR port for the remote is build in, the iLink prot is removed, progressive scan is added for games and movies, it plays DVD+-R/RW, and that the network adaptor is internal so you dont have to buy an add-on? correct me if im wrong.

I think it'd be a cold day in hell before they'd allow playing DVD+-R/RW. Its possible tho, but really I think it would make Mod Chips easier to make and make it easier to pirate. Unless they make it only for movie playback, but still I cant seem them doin it.

I kno for a fact that there adding DVD-+R/RW support and progressive scan for both games and movies. the modchip isn't allowing it to play DVD-+R/RW's well it is, but the modchip just modfy's the bios so that it can skip a verfifying part of a game so that it can boot up.

Are you sure about the mod chip? Then wouldn't it already nativly read DVDr, i mean as in like for videos and such? Cause if it will read a DVDr , if you made an exact image of a PS2 game then you'd be able to read it. I though one of the functions of a mod chip was to allow the reading of written (non origianal typed sony cds) cd/dvds.

I just couldn't imagine Sony goin for that but who knows hehe.

This is out in Japan and they have said that it is going to include better support for DVD by making it quieter, adding a built in IR port for the remote and allowing progressive scan and Recordable DVD playback

It's for increased support for movies on DVD-R, Sony knows how you all love to make home movies on DVD-R and would never rent then copy a DVD would you? It's all legit in their eyes. Built in IR port, inclusion of the network adaptor, progressive output and much quieter operation.

Can't be modded yet though.

I heard somewhere on the IGN boards that it would be released in August. But thats just forum talk you know how reliable that is. :-)

But I'm looking forward to it as well. My PS2 is finally giving up the ghost, and I'm wanting to hold out for one of those myself.

I wouldn't mind buying it as I definitely wanted to buy a dvd burner anyway...question is how much will this thing cost. Has Sony given any ideas as to what it might cost? I'm thinking $400+

The pics look nice? It's identical the the PS2 and it's less then $200, perhaps you're mistaking it with the PSX.

This is not the PSX with DVD writer and hard disc etc, it's just the regular PS2.

Its out now...I remember seeing it at GameStop the last time I went. Was selling for $199.

I checked with them, thats a different thing. They're selling the normal PS2 withthe network adapter but not the actual updated PS2.
