Is Last.FM about to hit PS3?

Recommended Posts

Music streaming service, Last.FM is only exclusive to Xbox 360 for one year, it's been revealed.

The news, revealed via an interview with Last.FM VP, Orlena Yeung in the latest Official Xbox Magazine, has sparked speculation that the service could soon make it over to PS3 once the November exclusivity date passes.

The Xbox 360 launch was a huge success for the service, seeing more than two million console users sign up in the first four months alone. Surely then, Last.FM has its eyes firmly on the other big current-gen powerhouse.

Regardless of which box it's on though, Yeung says new console-focussed features will be coming to service in the near future.

"There is a nice parallel between the community-driven experience at Last.FM and the gamer community on Xbox Live," she told OXM.

"I think we can create more experience where users are socialising their music taste across gaming and music. We will see..."

Earlier this morning it was revealed that movie streaming service Hulu - another Xbox 360 exclusive - could make its way to Sony's box.

It was never announced though :s Jumping the gun on that one.

As for Last.fm, it's inferior to Spotify, that's the one we want (Y) But both are limited (dreaming Spotify will come one day), til you can use them in the background and not just on the dash/XMB.

Id love to have last.fm on the ps3. If it had that or something similar to that id probably use it more than just for games.

Which is on the iPhone/Android so I don't need it on my console! :D

So they should give up on the desktop players while they're at it?

Yeah, that makes sense :p

At least on my PC I can reply to your posts at the same time. ;) :p

Instead of not bringing it to consoles, they should work with Sony & MS to make them work in the background. That way everyone is happy (Y)

Yay, more useless ****....

Agreed, my PS3 turns on when I want to play games or watch a movie, not when I want to listen to music. I guess for some it might be good, for me it's something I can live without :)

Even then, I have a literal wall of records ripped to my PC, that I can stream to the PS3 if I want music on the surround sound. And I could easily assume most PS3 owners with a wireless network have gigs of mp3s as well.

Well every PS3 owner has a tv & blu ray player. Why bother with Netflix or iPlayer :p

Why are PS3 owners so against options :(

Im not against options, the more the better i say.

If they are going to start adding all these extra bits and bobs onto the XMB, they need to let us customize it so we can hide columns or icons we don't want.

I like the idea. In my opinion, it would be beneficial to have another icon on the main XMB menu named something along the lines of "MyPlaystation" or similar. Under this category would be assorted links to Home, Last.fm, Hulu, Netflix, Facebook, etc.

Doubtful until it's launched in the US.

Well Netflix launched in the US without it being available anywhere else.

Why should we wait for you this time? ;)
