Retinal
The survey's findings oppose the music industry's long-standing argument that internet downloading is responsible for a slump in CD sales, with album sales falling 5% in the last year.Market research company Music Programming Ltd (MPL) said 87% of its respondents who downloaded music admitted they bought albums after hearing tracks through the internet. Makes for an interesting read. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/m...sic/3052145.stm
wizbit
Thats what i do - try b4 u buy. But the 5% slump could be caused by the outrageous pricing policies of either the record companies or the retailers. Why do they have to charge 15 or 16 quid for a cd ?? cjbeckwith
The music industy has no idea what is going on in their retail industry. I personally have bought countless CD's due to hearing a track or two and liking the artist. I think the majority of us support the artists that we truely enjoy. If CD's were not so overpriced and the industry would worry about something other than making as much money as possible at the consumers expense, then they might be able to turn around their market. As usual though, they treat the symptom, not look past it and try to find the true answer to their problem. Great management technique.

DigitalDiablo
I download then buy lots of the time. I just don't buy at $18 a cd, I try to find it somewhere else cheaper.
Briandl79
We really don't even know if these people are being honest..... Having said that I would really be interested to know who the RIAA thinks is responsible for lower home sales, car sales, movie ticket sales, etc, etc... I guess it's the pirates pirating homes and cars... Or maybe, just maybe it's that the economy isn't doing too well.... I know there are many industries that would be happy with a 5% drop off....
