If this is warez talk then please close the topic, I guessed that as it will be given to us free its not warez so..

I just installed the v.178 of Windows 7 SP1 and I am amazed, we all thought "What could they possibly do to make Windows 7 better than it already is" but somehow, they have, everything is so much quicker to respond, after first boot, the system response time even while loading was faster than when the system had been awake for 10 minutes, I can not wait for the final version, whatever they have done, they've done it right, and no annoying watermark and no timebomb either

Very impressed

Me too. Especially the startup is way smoother. I've been given to understand that the taskmanager has been streamlined and it really shows. Before this release my startup was rather hickuppy. It seemed many mutex's were fighting for resources.

This release it boots much smoother, and app's load more simultaneously then sequentially.

Yep, a good SP.

You folks really believe that it's faster? Interesting. I may try this out on my box at home, though I think the difference will be negligble on a high end machine/

I'm surprised everyone is saying this. I haven't noticed any changes at all on my system, regarding performance, stability, or functionality.

security fix out for Win7 SP1 Beta: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS10-043.mspx

Its on windows update, is this JUST for SP1 beta or is it on windows update for all win7 users? I can't check as i've already got the beta on.

Its for all Windows 7 64bit users, I just installed it on my non-sp1 beta machine.

The taskmanager did have a major overhaul. And that shows. Not faster, but smoother. Perhaps because it used to be my specialization (building multi-user systems) that it strikes me more. But it's quite clear that it has been improved. Since the taskmanager's performance is central to a fluid performance i find tat a very important improvemnt. But YMMV.

Overall as for the rest, i agree, there's not much difference. Just regular fixes.

Task Manager is an application. Do you mean the dispatcher? If so, that's an extremely bold claim, especially when you claim it's been improved so radically that you can tell with your naked eyes. The reality is that there's no indication that it has been changed at all (which is reasonable, it's an extremely dangerous part of the OS to touch), and I suspect you can't provide a shred of evidence for your claim, nor any sources.

If you can, I will apologize, but these claims are just silly. Any performance improvements from SP1 are going to be the result of either placebo (the most likely), or a certain bug severely limiting performance on a small number of systems that once fixed returns it to the level it should be. It's unlikely that many here would be affected.

People shouldn't be encouraged to install beta updates.

I was in the beta for Vista SP1 and SP2, but I don't really care with 7. The OS is fine and this service pack doesn't really change anything.

In my language it's called taskmanager. The phenomenon is so immediately obvious from one sp to the other it's hard to miss. And no, i don't have access to MS's internal documentation.

It's my observation, based on my judgment. I don't need to provide 'proof' for an observation. Drink less coffee, easier on the nerves.

Well, now you know the actual name.

Like I said, the claim is ludicrous and worth no more than me say SP1 made a unicorn appear in my living room.

You stated it as a fact, and implied that you had sources for the information.

SP1 did make a unicorn appear in my living room. I've been given to understand that this is a new feature and it really shows.

My sources are my sources. He provides me with the releases and his observations. You want his name and address?

Take it or leave it. Taskmanager has been improved and it does show on machines with a heavy load. You don't want to believe it? Don't. Just quit the high caffeine act,it annoys me.

How about some details on changes?

Taskmanager

I thought we agreed that it's called the dispatcher? Task Manager is an application that shows information about stuff running on your computer. That's what everyone thinks you mean at first, which makes your posts confusing.

You don't want to believe it? Don't.

Don't worry, I don't believe you. I wish it was true, in the same way I wish I could have my own supersonic unicorn.

Just quit the high caffeine act,it annoys me.

I don't drink caffeine. I'm sorry that being asked to provide some evidence for your exceptional claims annoys you, but that's what the world is like. I don't know why you don't want to contribute information that would be helpful to everyone.

As do I. SP1 includes one free unicorn. Whether it's supersonic depends on local law. In some regions, supersonic abilities are disabled.

You misunderstand. I explained the scenario where there is a theoretical possibility of noticing a difference. What I wanted evidence for was his claim (stated as fact, with secret sources) that there have been changes to the dispatcher. Not just minor changes. No, changes so substantial that it's even visible to the naked eye. This is a pretty extreme and exciting claim, and one that it would be interesting to get more details about, don't you think? You'd also think if they'd manage to do that, Microsoft would be pushing it for all it's worth, but no, there's no mention of it anywhere that I can see.

What if a hotfix made some changes to the dispatcher, making peformance improvements on a number of systems? Also, what if it's an offshoot of an unrelated hotfix? Could explain why there isn't proper documentation.

What if a hotfix made some changes to the dispatcher, making peformance improvements on a number of systems?

Well, the list is in post #51 of this thread. I don't see anything related, and it's rare for a hotfix to make changes to the most critical components of the OS unless there is an actual bug. Why doesn't he just provide the KB number? All the hotfixes are documented.

Also, what if it's an offshoot of an unrelated hotfix?

Yes, something else could affect performance. Like I said in an earlier post, it's perfectly possible that a bug was negatively impacting performance on a system and that fixing the bug restored it to the expected level. That's different from improving the performance of the OS though, and I don't quite see what that has to do with his claims that "I've been given to understand that the taskmanager [sic] has been streamlined" and that "The taskmanager [sic] did have a major overhaul." That implies design changes, much of the same sort Microsoft made from Vista/2008 to 7/2008 R2 (documented, and bragged about as much as they could).
