Kirby's Epic Yarn for best graphics, really GT? Really?

yeah I was about to ask the same.. So Gears of War 3 or MGS Rising is nowhere near Kirby's gfx.

Not even that, I saw better looking 3DS games at E3 than Kirby, not to mention Crysis 2 and the other big games that look a million times better. If they are talking about art design, I still don't see Kirby taking art over some of the other games shown at E3. GT, bleh.

I watched the most embarrassing moments just now. Yikes, some of those were pretty damn bad. The Dance Dance Revolution guy looked like he's high as a kite, and I hope that Paintball guy realizes how dumb he looked while playing that game.

MGS:Rising is definitely one to watch for me, but I'm a huge MGS fan, so I might just be easily impressed. Personally, I would have given the award to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but again, there's a bit of bias at work :).

All in all, it was a pretty bad E3 this year, I'm sorry to say. Too much emphasis on motion controls without good games to showcase them, and not enough emphasis on new game announcements (apart from Nintendo, of course).

Best Graphics - Kirby's EPIC YARN?

Get out, will ya' - Thing looked like digital regurgitation in low-res.

I think the biggest shocker of that category is that Gran Turismo 5 wasn't even nominated, let alone won!

I understand when they say Kirby had the most unique style, but best? not even close.

And I don't believe I missed the Konami Press conference, man, what a hoot that looked like.

Wow Konami

They really are going down the gutter.

Best graphics wasn't based on horsepower. It was based on art direction.

Their explanation of it was that everything else looks the same, which I can't blame them for

example:

They're basically saying that graphics are completely subjective, and based purely on that Kirby's Epic Yarn is something creative, imaginative, impressive, and hasn't really been seen before

Well, they could have simply not chose those games. They picked three games that were grey and dull as hell: Killzone 3, Gears of War 3, and Crysis 3. As Yahtzee said about GTA IV, "the graphics look like they've been soaked in dirty dishwater".

And anyway, what about Gran Turismo 5? That was nothing like the majority of games at E3. And if they wanted to go in terms of art direction, why not LittleBigPlanet 2?

Seriously, what is it with the obsession over Rage?! Every time I see it, I immediately think "Fallout 3 ripoff". And anyway, should the best console game award be limited to exclusives? They completely ignored Gran Turismo 5 in the PS3 award, just like they did in the Best Graphics award!

Fallout 3 could have been good if the engine wasn't an old piece of pap, animations horrendous and everything a bit so-so.

I can honestly see the hype behind Rage, I love that post-nuclear setting but it has to be done with a certain flair and Rage seems to be that game!

Looking at that list, I'm just about to say "What?!" looking at the winners, then I look at nominees and think "Oh okay".

I have to say, really getting hyped about that Star Wars: TOR - Looks to be turning out quite alright (Y)

Gotta agree with you on Rage. It seems like forever ago when they released the first trailer for it. It amazing that they are getting that game to look that good on current console hardware. Speaks volumes for the potential it has on a robust PC. I like the post apocolyptic setting as well. Rage has the fallout feel, along with the borderlands feel, with a little id software flair. I really would of liked to seen what Borderlands could have been without cell shaded graphics (I did like the overall borderlands visuals, but the original trailer for borderlands looked sweet as well and makes me wonder from time to time). So far Rage looks like it is coming along well and I just hope they continue to take their time and build a top-notch product.

The nominees seemed like there was not alot of thought put into them either. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier in the first person-shooter category? When it has both first and third person elements but also a 3rd person cover system like gears of war as well? I would lean more towards 3rd person or hybrid. IMO Modern Warfare 2 is cutting it close just for their atrocious decision to add a 3rd person playlist for multiplayer. It played like what I would expect a primarily FPS game to play like in 3rd person. Like crap.

People complaining about Kirby. I'm fed up of the Good Graphics = Hyper Realistic opinion nowadays. Something this unique is always good. Hence why it won the award.

So because you like it, we automatically have to? Sorry my friend, the world doesn't work that way.

You are getting the game in all its yarn glory anyway, so why does a few people not liking it get to you?

Two things bug me about their Best Graphics award. They left out Gran Turismo 5, which is arguably the best looking game this year. Second, they included Kirby's Epic Yarn because of its style of graphics, so why did they leave out LittleBigPlanet 2, which follows a similar style, and it looks much better.

Indeed, seems like a very selective nomination with a hint of bias.

Seeing that they picked Rage for almost every single award it was nominated in, it's more than a hint. :p I posted 23 awards, Rage was nominated for 6 of them, and it won all 6.

I'm guessing a huge wad of cash and a plate of those miniature spring rolls was involved .... mmmm, miniature spring rolls.
