Sony's PlayStation was the most followed brand on Facebook andTwitter in April with 1.4 million fans and followers in total, according to a report.

The results from web search expert Greenlight's Entertainment Retail report also found that PlayStation was the most interactive brand in April, making 634 posts and tweets.

Over 12 million UK consumers searched online for entertainment products in April, 72 per cent of which were related to gaming consoles and games.

'Nintendo DS Games' was the most searched-for gaming term with 1.5 million hits - 12 per cent of all searches for consoles and games.

The report also says that Amazon.co.uk was the most 'visible' entertainment site in search results, beating sites from high-street brands such as Game, HMV and Tesco in both natural and paid-for search results. This also made Amazon the most successful entertainment advertiser.

Argos, which was the eighth most visible entertainment site, had 4,241 Facebook 'fans' yet didn't make a single post in April.

Online department store Very was praised in the report for using its Facebook page to generate press releases but also act as a customer service contact.
