Decent for a fat to slim upgrade?

Not bad, I wonder if the GameStop stores in the UK will have a similar offer soon.

I went to trade in my PS3 2 days before this (doesn't read discs, so I bought a slim a few days prior) and was told by the manager to come back the first day this started.

If he was on here, I'd +1 his rep. :)

hmm.. this is very tempting. Anyone want to post the advantages of slim vs old 40 gig ps3?

I know of 2:

Bigger HD

my receiver will now light up a pretty blue when playing the HD codecs ( :woot: - almost worth the $100 right there..)

Also, does anyone know if this will effect my PSN "share account"?

Just deactivate your old PS3, and when you get your new one login and activate it (I can tell you how to do that if you don't know how - Under account management). You shouldn't need to re-download anything if you back up your old PS3 to an external hard drive before taking it in.

Other pluses are just quieter/cooler and it runs off a lot less power.

It as you already stated can now bitstream HD audio, and it also has Bravia Sync. All I can think of just now.

edit: lol obvious other advantages are 120GB vs 40GB and a smaller console

hmm.. might have to look into this a bit further. I have a new Sony LCD that has wifi built into it, so that feature might come in handy. Thanks!

Not bad ,just so so

Ha ha ha, are you kidding? $200 for a fat PS3 this late in the console's lifespan is pretty amazing. Think, if you had a PS3 that was starting to break, you could trade it in for $200 at this point, trade in a few games, and get a new slim system for nothing.
