rajputwarrior
Have we seen much of gameplay yet? I can't think of any :s if you wanna tiny look at the game, check out the benchmark.. https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/912436-final-fantasy-xiv-official-benchmark/ I've always hated MMORPG (but love RPG's) and because this is a final fantasy themed one i really really want to try it. I applied for the beta. no luck :( Hopefully there is some sort of demo that comes out. Nice strategy by square releasing the collectors edition first... more info and the collectors edition comes out at the same time in NA, just checked the futureshop website. The first steps players take into the world of Eorzea will be wide ones, as Square Enix reveals two September release dates for Final Fantasy XIV on the PC; one for the normal edition, and an earlier one for the lavish collector's edition. That's right, Final Fantasy XIV for the PC is coming out on September 22 in collector's edition form, and again on September 30 as a standard edition release. Why the discrepancy? Because Square Enix is smart. Most MMO games these days offer early access in some form or another, and Final Fantasy XIV is no different. Fans that purchase the collector's edition will score a free week of game play. Unlike other MMOs, which make players download the entire game client online in order to participate, Final Fantasy XIV gives its early access players an actual disc. Good on them! While an eight day head start is more than enough to justify the extra $25 for the collector's edition in many fans' eyes, Square Enix has loaded up the $75 box with exclusive goodies. Here's what's inside: In-Game Item – Collector's Edition preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm.* Early Access– Play 8 days prior to the release of the Windows PC Standard Edition (timing of access subject to initial server capacity). Behind the Scenes DVD – Get an insider look at the making of FINAL FANTASY XIV, with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD. Security Token – A FINAL FANTASY XIV–branded Security Token for use with your regular password. Travel Journal – Record your travels in this beautifully bound journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art. Right of Passage – Redeem a voucher to receive your fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number. Amano Cover – Special PC Collector's Edition illustration by renowned artist Yo****aka Amano. That's a rather nice deal. Plus, everyone who buys either version will of course receive one free month of play, before having to pony up the lower-than-average $12.99 a month subscription fee. And in case this wasn't enough good news, the beta test for Final Fantasy XIV is scheduled to begin early next month, and next month starts *checks watch* tomorrow. Both versions of Final Fantasy XIV for the PC are now available for preorder at most major retailers.
Xilo
I was in Alpha. It was a lot of fun. I've seen a lot of the posted changes for Beta and it looks to have fixed a lot of the problems in Alpha. Beta starts in early July. Can't wait. :woot: PC beta kicked off a while ago, I have no idea if there is an NDA or people just aren't bothering to post anything Beta hasn't started yet. Alpha finished 2 weeks ago. There is an NDA, so that's why you don't see much posting.
pepsihabbit
My only question is this. does it have Playonline with it? playonline started only taking credit or debit cards that have a secure code or something. so a lot of people weren't able to keep playing due to the new rules. am I going to have to jump through those same hoops to play. I pulled this from the FFXI website "We have received a number of questions regarding the newly added security feature on PlayOnline known as the Payer Authentication Service (3-D Secure). We would like to take this opportunity to help clear up certain questions you may have about the new service. If you are a Visa customer, you can enroll in this service at the Verified By Visa® site: www.VerifiedByVisa.com If you are a MasterCard customer, you can enroll in this service at the MasterCard SecureCode® site: www.SecureCode.com All customers are now required to activate this service before registering a new account or making payment method changes to your current account using the PlayOnline viewer. However, since some credit cards are not eligible for this service, we ask that users that encounter this issue contact the Information Center for further assistance. Please be sure to check with your credit card company if you are not sure if this service is supported on your card. If your card is eligible for this service, please be sure to register at the web site before you register for a new account or make payment method changes to a current account through the PlayOnline viewer. If your card is not eligible for this service, we encourage you to contact the PlayOnline Information Center for further assistance. "

soniqstylz
PC beta kicked off a while ago, I have no idea if there is an NDA or people just aren't bothering to post anything I'm in it (and should get in the PS3 beta) but haven't had a chance to log in. x9248
I was also in Alpha but I quit after trying it for 2 scheduled nights. The game "jumped" a little and I just couldn't bear it. If they actually have game options like in FFXI (turn off weather effects, shadows etc) then I should be ok... prolly won't happen till release tho :p

The benchmark is the opening cutscene and there are several cutscenes in the game. The city available in testing is rather huge. Though you WILL (eventually) be able to turn the graphics down. I love how Neowin's profanity filter censors that artist's name  . I signed up for the beta using that little card that came with Final Fantasy XIII, so I'm hoping that I'm lucky enough to get in. I'm not really a fan of MMORPGs, just because of the time commitment that they tend to require, but if I do get into the beta, I will definitely give it a fair shake. I always said that if I did get into an MMO, it would be either this or The Old Republic.

SnowRanger13
Years ago I use to play FFXI a lot, game required a lot of time but the community was amazing. Now FFXIV is looking to be a great MMO with a lot more casual play. If it is able to have the same kind of community it'll be a hit, for me anyways. Hopefully I get in the beta, definitely pre ordering it for the PC! Why so long on the PS3 version? I'd rather play on the PC myself anyways but I have a number of friends that definitely don't have a PC thats powerful enough

After the first few months it will even out a lot, and the true FF community will shine, I can't wait for that. Until then, for true FF players just ignore all forms of chat for awhile until said time ;p
