Just saw a couple screenshots and noticed the WoW-like "action bar" at the bottom. Is this a first in an FF game? I always remember it to be a menu-based game.

FFXI had an action bar as well for macros but everything could also be done from the menus.

This game is a beast. I tried playing on max settings at 1920x1200, and it was laggy.

It just went into beta I'm sure from now till launch there will be optimizations to make the game more efficient.

From talk in interviews it sounds like at some point DirectX 11 will be added. Right now the game is stuck in DirectX 9.0c because of compatibility with older graphics cards and Windows XP.

The benchmark tool basically said I wouldn't be able to run the game at anything other than the lowest settings so I'm going to be holding off on this for a while. Shame really :(

Specs - http://*malware domain*/show_oc.php?id=1280968

But did it seam smooth? I got crappy scores but the game still runs smooth as a babys bum!

Dude, you have an i7, 6GB of RAM, but an old ass video card? Gimping yourself like that is such a waste.

Wouldn't call a 4890 old dude... I have a 4850 Integrated and it runs 99% of games fine.

Your computer is definitely good enough. The minimal requirements for the beta is a Nvidia Geforce 9600 or a ATI Radeon HD2900, so your 4890 is definitely good enough. I assume something else is holding your benchmark score back, try updating your drivers and updating DirectX 9.0c

The latest June version of DirectX 9.0c works best for me: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d

My specs and score:

Intel Core i7 950

6GB DDR3 tripple channel 1333MHz

Nvidia Geforce 285GTX

Low: 5029

High: 4182

I haven't run the benchmark with the new beta Nvidia drivers and I still could over clock but I'm pretty happy with my scores.

4890 is hardly old. It still runs everything at Max settings with no problems at all except apparently the FF14 benchmark tool ;).

I'm holding off buying into DX11 cards because their still in their infancy as far as the technology goes and I would rather hold out for the next generation of them.

The video seemed smooth, no lag or anything there. I hope they release a new tool with some actual optimisations in it closer to release so I can see if there's any improvements, I understand that this version was built on top of alpha code with an unrefined engine, but we'll see.

Everything is up to date except my graphics drivers which at the moment I can't update because it causes me to have blue screens of death every 5 minutes (N).

Hopefully I can get into the beta at some point before release and see what it's really like. I'll probably end up buying it in the end anyway as a big fan of XI.

Still going.... sigh...

I've uploaded twice what I've downloaded so far, anyone got any ideas for speeding this up? Was considering adding this machine to DMZ for a while so nothing is getting blocked.

Lucky you, no invite for me yet so I'm guessing I'm not getting one till the next batch.

add the exe to accepted on your firewall and forward the ports? If you can't find out what the ports are then yea DMZ would be your best bet.

... sigh, I know how to do that on Linux or my Mac, no idea on Windows. Hmm, if I add this address to my routers DMZ then it'll require a reboot, seeing as I'm remote desktopped in, what're the chances the wireless doesn't reconnect?

I ran the benchmark on my PC and it runs it rather good, However if the controls are the same as XI then there is no way I will play this game. Even thought it does look good. And Final Fantasy is one of my Favorite Game Series' (can you call it a Series if there are only a few sequels)
