XP services needed for networking

Recommended Posts

up until now, this computer's been running as a standalone, no-home networked box, but now i want to create a home network, but i cant. i think it has to do with xp services ive set to manual instead of automatic. i'll be connecting two xp comps, so there shouldnt be a problem

does somebody know all the services are required for home networking, so i dont have to reformat? thanks

Start by trying to ping each machine from both side. Once you can do that you are basically networked. That mean IP address and subnet mask. That's all you need.

If you want to setup a Home Network, just run the xp wizard.

Services: Workstation and Server both need to be started and set to automatic.

i figured out the problem, it was something so stupid, i couldnt believe it. i didnt even have to make a new network connection or home network, i just had to enable File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, which was off on one of the comps. the rest was plugnplay
