hey.

i have the same problem. Its just a thing to so with the way that ADSL is provided through the router. Im not sure why this is, but its something that cannot be fixed AFAIK. The reason why you can send to each other is because you are on the same IP address and its not really being sent past the router. Its just something to do with not being able to send it past the router.

Yeh i connect to ADSL through a router and can send using MSN Messenger 6. The problem possibly has to do with a feature provided by the router called NAT. NAT is a very good thing and provides good security. However it does have some limitations if not configured for certain tasks. You have two options to make file sending work:

1: Check the manufacturer for a firmware upgrade that has UPnP support - this allows the router to automatically detect and configure itself for a variety of uses on the spot.

2: Manually configure port forwarding. With this, you need to determine the port that the application uses and then configure the router to forward requests from that port to your IP address. This creates a tunnel between the internet and your internal IP address for that port.

Good luck

UPnP will do absolutly nothing unless software you are using supports UPnP, and also your OS is configured to support UPnP.

what you need to do is figure out what ports ICQ is using to send files and then forward those ports in your router to your computer.

Ok let see here. What kind of router are you using. You are certainly using NAT which is great. what you need to do is figure out from the documentation you have how to open the port used for IM services. Some service use a central server for file transfer but most use a direct connection for file transfer. Therefore you need to open port on your router to establish that connection. Here are is a list of common ports used by common application. I have a list handy (I'm such a geek)

AOL IN TCP 4099

OUT TCP 5190

ICQ For 3 user

IN TCP 20000 ~ 20059

OUT UDP 4000

MSN

IN TCP 6891 ~ 6900 1863 6901

IN UDP 1863 5190 6901

Try to open these port for all pc but most of the time you can only forward those port to 1 IP address, but maybe your firewall supports it

Get back to us with an update

Good Luck
