Minina
Hello!!! After having numerous problems with trojans and worms that I really don't know how they get into my pc (no email, no kazaa...) I decided to format. After formatting I booted (?) from cdrom but then I encountered with a message from Trend Chip away virus on guard that I had a boot virus. It didn't give me any option to remove that virus so I formatted from FDisk and did Fdisk/mbr as I read that it would clean the boot sector. Then, when I tried to install Windows Xp Pro I got the same message about the boot virus. I don't know what to do. Do I really have a boot virus? Before I formatted I removed all the trace of trojans and worms and the antivirus said my pc was clean (doubt so ). What else can I do? I continued the installation ignoring the message. Is there any way to find out if I have boot virus? how do I remove it????? Thanks!
MxxCon
some bios has protection that prevent anyway from writing to MBR of disk...it's possible that when you were installing windows, setup tried to copy system files to MBR and your bios freaked out.. it's a possible false alarm, or you indeed have boot virus.. GeordieRich
What anti-virus program are you using? I know Norton lets you boot from the CD to check for virus problems. Other virus programs may have the same feature. Give it a try. Just as an aside, I had a systemboard with Trend Chip-Away and it gave a warning when I installed Linux.
